The Greatest Field Trip


We will be taking a field trip to many important locations in the life of Muhammad
Ali. We will primarily be in Louisville, Kentucky with a brief stop in Kinshasa, Zaire.

Muhammad Ali grew up on 3302 Grand Avenue in Louisville, Kentucky.

Muhammad Ali graduated from the historic Central High School in 1960.

The Columbia Gym (Now Spalding University


Center)
This site is unique because it is the place where Muhammad Ali was trained to box
by a Louisville Police Officer, Joe Martin.
Ali wanted to learn to box because his bike was stolen at this location and he
wanted to whoop whoever it was that took it.

Muhammad Ali, formerly Cassius Clay, attend church here with his mother,
Odessa, before converting to Islam in 1964.

Muhammad Alis father, Cassius Marcellus Clay Sr., and brother, Rahaman Ali
were sign painters and artists.
Some of there work is still on display in this church.

In honor of many Ali achievements, the city renamed Walnut Street to Muhammad
Ali Boulevard.
Runs nearly 5 miles long.

Cave Hill Cemetery


This is Muhammad Alis final resting place.
Cave Hill Cemetery contains many prominent citizens, including Colonel Harlan
Sanders and George Rogers Clark.
