The Greatest Field Trip
We will be taking a field trip to many important locations in the life of Muhammad
Ali. We will primarily be in Louisville, Kentucky with a brief stop in Kinshasa, Zaire.

The Columbia Gym (Now Spalding University
Center)
This site is unique because it is the place where Muhammad Ali was trained to box
by a Louisville Police Officer, Joe Martin.
Ali wanted to learn to box because his bike was stolen at this location and he
wanted to whoop whoever it was that took it.

Muhammad Ali, formerly Cassius Clay, attend church here with his mother,
Odessa, before converting to Islam in 1964.
