Eight-Week Curriculum

Kundalini Yoga for Prayer and Blessings

90-Minute Classes
Created for 3HO IKYTA Members
Sat Nam, Dear Teacher,
This 8-week series of classes is based upon the 3HO International Kundalini Yoga Teachers Association
(IKYTA) Conference theme for 2015--prayer. Many of us have old understandings of prayer. We think we
have to sit and beg a distant saint or deity for acknowledgement or to fulfill a need. We were taught to ask
or to plead and wish for something rather than communicate, recognize our Infinite nature and confirm our
consciousness. However, the Aquarian approach to prayer is different. Prayer is communication. But,
prayer can be a difficult concept for teachers to relay to students. This curriculum focusing on the theme of
prayer and blessings is designed to guide Kundalini Yoga teachers as they share the power of prayer with
others.
Prayer is built into each and every Kundalini Yoga class. We begin class with the Adi Mantra to focus and
attune, or, come into rapport with each other, with the lineage of teachers before us and, ultimately, with
our highest and best self. And, we often end class with a closing prayer. We learned from our teacher, Yogi
Bhajan, who ended each class with prayer. He bowed his head, became ready to receive and intuned his
mind into the higher consciousness and into the Unknown. Yogi Bhajan: It has nothing to do with what you
say and what you dont say. It is just an intunement, mental intunement, and that is where the power is.
Each class in this curriculum has been taught at Kundalini Yoga in the Loop, in Chicago. While it is always
best to choose a kriya and meditation that can be taught at full times in some of these classes the times of
the exercises have been proportionately reduced. Reducing the times is suggested to easier fit in all the
components of a Kundalini Yoga class within a 90-minute timeslot.
While this is not a definitive list of all the kriyas and meditations you could possibly use in a curriculum
focusing on prayer and blessings it is my hope you will not only find inspiration with what is here but that
you will teach this or a similar curriculum soon!
May God and Guru continue to bless 3HO IKYTA, Kundalini Yoga Instructors, Practitioners and Teachers
world-wide.
Yours in service,

Shakta Kaur

Yoga for Prayer and Blessings
XXXXs MONTHLY Theme
Prayer is the most powerful technique to communicate to the unknown. The unknown is both within and
without. It does not have the boundaries that our conscious mind creates and depends upon.
Many of us have old understandings of prayer. We think we have to sit and beg a distant saint or deity for
acknowledgement or to fulfill a need. We were taught to ask or to plead and wish for something rather than
communicate, recognize our Infinite nature and confirm our consciousness. We were told we were sinners
and we had to redeem ourselves.
But, the Aquarian approach to prayer is different. Prayer is communication. You will learn so much more
about prayer including:
-Prayer is tapping energy from the Unknown part of you.
-Prayer is cultivated in two powerful ways ... Shakti and Bhakti.*
-Prayer is the intunement of the mind into the Unknown.
-Prayer is to create by intention.
-Prayer that moves the Divine comes with a full heart and love.
-Prayer doesnt give you God; you are already God.
So, come to XXXX during the months of XXXX and XXXX and learn to expand your concept of prayer. Come
to communicate prayerfully, to develop a prayerful attitude and to complete the link between your known
and unknown. Click here to register for classes on-line [XXXX], or, simply drop-in to any class, any time!
*Bhakti is devotion, surrender, humility and reverence to your highest and best self. Shakti gives you the courage,
energy and strength to face and dispense with fears and projections.

you pray. And the only channel through which your unknown can reach you for help is the power of
your own prayer. Prayer is not talking to God. --Yogi Bhajan
At any moment there is far more of you that is unknown than known (Level 2 Conscious
Communication Manual, p. 182).
2) Old understandings of prayer are ... begging, pleading, asking of a distant deity or saint rather
than the new Aquarian approach where, as Yogi Bhajan says: We feel no separation between the
Infinite, God and our Self (Level 2 Conscious Communication Manual, p. 183).
3) Simply, when I am not connected with my Unknown, and I do not tap the power of the
Unknown, at that time I am weak. Yogi Bhajan
Prayer is the power to tap your own Unknown to bring it to your known and become radiant (Level
2 Conscious Communication Manual, p. 183).

11:25 Deep relaxation.
11:40 Meditation.
11:55 Longtime Sunshine Song and 3 Long Sat Nams.
3 Key Concepts:
1) Prayer is the most powerful technique to communicate with the Unknown. At any moment
there is far more of you that is Unknown than is known (Conscious Communication Level 2 Manual,
p. 182).
2) Prayer creates specific projections and frequencies in our mind and aura just as mantras create
specific permutations and combinations of sound that impact our glandular and nervous systems.
That is what mantra is ... the power of the word. The prayer of the human through the power of
the word is a manifestation of the divine itself (Conscious Communication Level 2 Manual, p. 182).
3) There are 3 key elements that can enhance the experience of mantra: a) your projection or
intention when you chant mantra; b) your pronunciation of the mantra making sure to maintain
the correct balance and rhythm of the syllables that make up the words; and c) the most important
element is maintain a crisp, precise rhythm (The Aquarian Teacher Level 1 Textbook, p. 69).
If you positively move the vibration, the world is yours. Theres nothing standing in the way of you
and You (Yogi Bhajan, Level 2 Conscious Communication Manual, p. 182).

Yoga for Prayer & Blessings #3

Ask God to Pray for You!
Warm-Up: Kriya: Yoga Set for Emotional Balance, (A Womans Book of Yoga, pp. 176-178).
Main Kriya: Balancing the Pineal, Pituitary & Hypothalamus (Owners Manual for the Human Body,
p. 47 and Conscious Pregnancy: The Gift of Giving Life, p. 211).
Meditation: Excel & Build Your Healing Force (RM in Me, p. 50).
10:30 Welcome & Tune In.
10:35 - Warm-Up.
10:50 - Main Kriya.
11:25 Deep relaxation.
11:45 Meditation.
11:55 Longtime Sunshine Song and 3 Long Sat Nams.
3 Key Concepts:
1) Prayer is not begging. This does not mean you train the mind to say, Oh, thank you God; I am
very sorry. Please help me. Now, do you think God is crazy? Hes going to listen to you? Forget it;
thats not what God wants and he doesnt have time for that. Your mind must tune-in to the Infinite
mind; thats what prayer is; that is what naad in laya is.
For example, Suppose at this time right now you have one hour. I am tired, I am broken, I need
help; or at this time I am hungry and I need food in this moment. Or, I have this task to complete
and I need assistance now. This time is the time!
If you can put your spirit, mind, body and everything into this time, for that time, for that one hour,
then I can get through that handicap. I shall be grateful; I shall become prayerful; I shall be
beautiful. But if you are willing to waste this hour instead to attend and care for your neurosis, your
fears, your thoughts, your complications, your preferences, then this hour will pass and never come
back again. ... Life, time and space is exactly like that hour. It is that moment. It is that time and
space and its that chance that is in that hour (The 21 Stages of Meditation, p. 290).
In the Aquarian Age you dont pray you ask God to pray for you. It is reversed. Tell God, Lord,
pray for me that I should be as Infinite as You are. Make me as great, bright, bountiful and
beautiful as You, Oh Lord. Give me the power of love to serve. Let me know to serve myself. Let my
glance touch and heal. Let my sight create miracles. Let, where I exist and pass, there be nothing
but enlightened dance from your Grace (Conscious Communication Level 2 Manual, p. 186).
2) Na-from nothing; ad- that which came first. It is a special science of sound that opens your
heart, strengthens your lungs and surrounds you with an uplifting sound current.
3) One of the reasons we use a lot of mantras and shabds (from the Siri Guru Granth Sahib) is that
they come from a place of prayerful stillness. They were heard by the clear souls of many great
8 week Prayers & Blessings Curriculum

teachers who in prayerful stillness expressed the presence of God within them in beautiful and
effective poetry. The words contain wisdom and move the mind and soul into alignment. ...
Delivered by very pure channels to all people of all traditions, they were words of the soul
expressed through the heart to elevate the mind in order to see the world through prayerful
stillness. These shabds and mantras are songs of truth, both universal and intimately personal,
which transcend time and space (The 21 Stages of Meditation, p. 291).
Key Skills:
1) Miracle Bend (in warm-up).
2) Mantras: Guru Gaitri Mantra (Gobinde, Mukunday); Mool Mantra; and Har Har Gobinde, Har
Har Mukunday, Har Har Udaaray, Har Har Apaaray, Har Har Hariang, Har Har Kariang, Har Har
Nirnaamay, Har Har Akamay.
3) Mudras: Gyan Mudra, Surya Mudra and Shuni Mudra.
4) Holding the arms parallel to the ground at shoulder height for 6 minutes in Exercise #1 of the
Main Kriya!

Yoga for Prayer & Blessings #4

Bless Every Part of You!
Warm-Up: Kriya: Self-Adjustment of the Spine (I Am a Woman, pp. 192-193), minimum times, i.e.,
1 minute per exercise.
Main Kriya: Creating Internal Balance (Self-Experience, pp. 7-8).
Meditation: For Self-Blessing-Guidance by Intuition (KRI International Level 1 Teacher Training
Manual, 3-ring binder, p. 389).
10:30 Welcome & Tune In.
10:35 - Warm-Up.
10:55 - Main Kriya.
11:25 Deep relaxation.
11:45 Meditation.
11:55 Longtime Sunshine Song and 3 Long Sat Nams.
3 Key Concepts:
1) Yogi Bhajan: I was given this lesson on my 3rd birthday. Evaluate yourself for 3 minutes every
morning and for 5 minutes every twilight. You will never miss anything which can serve you or bring
you the best. Its 8 minutes of self evaluation. Do it religiously. Evaluate yourself by blessing your
head, nose, ears, eyes, mouth, teeth, throat, chest, arms and belly every morning. Just tell them,
Be with me and be nice. In the evening, for 5 minutes, bless your ten toes and fingers, earlobes
and top of the ears. Its an acupuncture. Bless every part of the ears and youll be a new person.
You must evaluate and assess yourself. After blessing your body in the evening, bless your good
deeds of the day. In the morning bless your good thoughts. Your environments, life, your power,
projection and behavior will become the best. You have to bless every part of the body with touch.
These are your friends. In the first 3 minutes, at the dawn of your consciousness, befriend your
being physically, mentally and spiritually. In the evening, befriend your being in detail. This you can
teach a 3-year old (KRI International Level 1 Teacher Training Manual, 3-ring binder, p. 470).
2) Prayer is the power of a person to get to his Infinity when hes himself, not just when hes
confronting (KRI International Level 1 Teacher Training Manual, 3-ring binder, p. 468 and Khalsa
Womens Training Camp, 1990, p. 129).
3) The Arcline extends from earlobe to earlobe, across the hairline and brow. Its your halo and the
nucleus of your aura. Women have a second Arcline which extends from nipple to nipple. The
Arcline is your projection, your radiance. It gives you the ability to focus, to be concentrated and to
meditate. It is the balance point between the physical realm and the cosmic realm.
If your Arcline is weak you may become overly protective and easily influenced. You may be
unfocused and unable to manifest your prayers. You also may not be using your intuition to
protect yourself (The Aquarian Teacher Level 1 Textbook, p. 200).
8 week Prayers & Blessings Curriculum

There is one thing which is superior to every man and a woman and that is the Arcline. The arc
body obeys no rule of nature. Because the arc body is the base of the radiant body, things can be
twisted, managed and arranged. That is where the power of the prayer works. Just remember the
physical body is just one body. The ten bodies are soul, negative mind, positive mind, neutral mind,
physical, arc body, aura, pranic body, subtle body and radiant body.
We have only two chances. One is the arc body and the other is the radiant body. Hargobind, the
sixth guru and Gobind, the tenth guru. It is not a coincidence (KRI International Level 1 Teacher
Training Manual, 3-ring binder, p. 468 and The Global Woman, Women in Training XV, 1990,
Lectures by Yogi Bhajan, p. 82).
Key Skills:
1) Cat Cow modification in Exercise #2 of the Main Kriya.
2) Using a 60 degree angle (of the arms) in Exercise #3 of the Main Kriya.
3) Inhaling in 8 strokes (sniffs) and exhaling in 8 strokes (sniffs) in the meditation.
4) Holding the arms up in a circular arc over the head mimicking the Arcline that extends from ear
to ear.

Yoga for Prayer & Blessings #5

Live by the Heart & Your Prayer is Complete!
Warm-Up: Yogic March, Crow Pose, Cat-Cow, Front Leg Stretch, Basic Spine Flex (2-3 mins. each
exercise).
Main Kriya: Exercises for the Heart Center (The Heart Rules, pp. 58-64 and Reaching Me In Me, pp.
17-18).
Meditation: The Ancient Way of Prayer (Prana, Pranee, Pranayam, pp. 94-95).
OR Guru Ram Das: Rhythmic Harmony for Happiness (Sadhana Guidelines, 1st ed., pp. 105-106, 2nd
ed., p. 157 and The Heart Rules, p. 127).
10:30 Welcome & Tune In.
10:35 - Warm-Up.
10:55 - Main Kriya.
11:30 Deep relaxation.
11:45 Meditation.
11:55 Longtime Sunshine Song and 3 Long Sat Nams.
3 Key Concepts:
1) There are two powerful ways Kundalini Yogis use to cultivate the unknown in prayer Bhakti and
Shakti.
In Bhakti you use the power of devotion. You bow, surrender and become zero. Very difficult in
the west! In Shakti you become Infinite. You stand next to the Infinite and join it consciously. You
can become zero or Infinite (Conscious Communication Level 2 Manual, p. 184).
Shakti is the pure power of precision and discipline in the repetition [of mantra]. It is the pure
energy which infuses all implementation without human tiredness. Bhakti is the experience of
surrender and devotion; it is the devoted dedication which provides the energy to complete
everything (The Aquarian Teacher Level 1 Textbook, p. 72).
Our words are different depending upon our attitude ... Bhakti or Shakti. In Bhakti we say, It is by
thy grace I am given the virtue to serve the dust of those who go to serve those of consciousness.
In Shakti we say, Let my hand and heart serve with all true power and clarity the will of God
(Conscious Communication Level 2 Manual, p. 184).
2) Sadhana awakens Bhakti. Sadhana shall only be done by those who relate to God on a love
basis. Love is the power behind the prayer. If you are in love with God, only then can you do
sadhana. What is sadhana? Its a committed prayer. It is something which you want to do, have to
do and which is being done by you.
Thats why no personal prayer is added in sadhana. Its a set prayer. You go to it, you do it and that
is how you dedicate your time to enrich yourself.
8 week Prayers & Blessings Curriculum

Sadhana is self-enrichment. It is not something which is done to please somebody or to gain

something. Sadhana is a personal process in which you bring out your personal best. Yogi Bhajan
(Conscious Communication Level 2 Manual, p. 184).
3) I dont want to spoil you Americans, but I am telling you there is no power in the head, it is all in
the heart. God gave you a head to give it to God. God gave you a heart to live. Thats why Guru
Gobind Singh asked for the head not for the heart. Head is for God, heart is for you. Whosoever
lived with a head to God, heart to the self, his or her prayer is complete. Yogi Bhajan (Conscious
Communication Level 2 Manual, p. 184).
Live by the heart and serve by the head. You will never regret it (Yogi Bhajan, The Heart Rules, p.
38).
Key Skills:
1) Cobra Pose.
2) Rocking Bow Pose.
3) Heart Muscle Stretch (Main Kriya, Ex. #8).
4) Crow Pose Variation.

for the Human Body, pp. 42-43; aka Kriya to Experience Your Elementary Personality, Yoga for
Prosperity, pp. 83-84; and aka Complete Workout for the Elementary Being, Inner Workout
Manual, pp. 48-50).
Main Kriya: Glandular System Tune-Up (Owners Manual for the Human Body, pp. 44-46).
Meditation: Forget Yourself and Help Others (Meditations for the New Millennium, #T131, June 21,

10:55 - Main Kriya.
11:30 Deep relaxation.
11:45 Meditation.
11:55 Longtime Sunshine Song and 3 Long Sat Nams.
3 Key Concepts:
1) Each good wish, each prayer, is the power to extend happiness. That is the power of prayer
(Conscious Communication Level 2 Manual, p. 202).
2) Prayer is a worship. Whosoever knows the art and power of worship will himself become God
(Yogi Bhajan, White Tantric Yoga Course #19 DVD, Chicago, USA, 2014).
3) Seva (selfless service) is called a living prayer. Symbolically, when you help others, when you
forget who you are, the Infinite takes care of your life and your surroundings. Reach out! This is
the lifeHail Guru Ram Das and heal the world! And remember, when you heal somebodys
problem, your problems disappear all around you. There is no greater joy than helping others,
helping everybody, helping anybody. Our problems are only there when we are not willing to take
care of others. In the Age of Aquarius we have to serve, help, elevate and share. Truly understand
the meaning of Vandh Chakko: Share with others and God will share with you (Yogi Bhajan,
Meditations for the New Millennium, #T131).
Key Skills:
1) Partner exercises in main kriya.
2) Tip of the nose eye focus in meditation.
3) Mudra in meditation.

Yoga for Prayer & Blessings #7

Four Special Prayers!
Main Kriya: Self-Renewal (Physical Wisdom, pp. 2-3).
Meditation: Ardas Bahee (Yoga for Prosperity, p. 67).
10:30 Welcome & Tune In.
10:35 - Main Kriya.
11:25 Deep relaxation.
11:40 Meditation.
11:55 Longtime Sunshine Song and 3 Long Sat Nams.
3 Key Concepts:
1) The appellate concept is the concept of appeal. There is no damage so serious that it cannot be
erased by the power of prayer. The appellate concept of prayer is when the current situation is
overridden by a higher power. It is a special prayer offered to connect you to the Divine Self with
Infinite compassion and love. It is a special level of compassion that can turn destiny in a new
direction (Conscious Communication Level 2 Manual, pp. 202 & 203).
2) Four Types of Appellate Prayer: a) Prayer of the Mother; b) Prayer of the Beloved or Faithful
Wife; c) Prayer of the Self (when the ego is lost and you have prostrated and prayed to God); and d)
Prayer of the Teacher (when the teacher has emerged out of God and is submerged into God)
(Conscious Communication Level 2 Manual, p. 202 & pp. 204-206).
"When a mother prays, even if she prays wrongly, it will affect you rightly. I know it from
experience. Mother is one institution that if it prays wrong or if it prays right it becomes right.
(Conscious Communication Level 2 Manual, p. 204).

If there is a woman praying for you, you dont have to bother. If will all work out fine because
everything is Prakirti, and once part of the Prakirti starts praying for you, you have all things in
control. All a man needs is one loving female who is blindly in love and insensitive to everything else
(Conscious Communication Level 2 Manual, p. 205).
3) The Ardas Bahee mantra may be translated: The prayer that has been made to Guru Amar Das
is guaranteed by Guru Ram Das. This is a good mantra for answered prayers (Yoga for Prosperity,
p. 67).
Normally there is no power in the human but the power of prayer. And to do prayer you have to
put your mind and body together and then pray from the soul. Ardas Bahee is a mantra prayer. If
you sing it, your mind, body and soul automatically combine and without saying what you want, the
need of the life is adjusted (Yogi Bhajan, Self-Experience, p. 29).

12

Key Skills:
1) Arms overhead with palms touching, pulling the spine, rib cage and armpits upward, fighting
gravity with your own will (Kriya, Ex. #2).
2) Making small backward circles as the arms are raised and lowered at the same time (Kriya, Ex.
#3).
3) Learning the mantra, Ardas Bahee, Amar Das Guru, Amar Das Guru, Ardas Bahee; Ram Das Guru,
Ram Das Guru, Ram Das Guru, Sachee Sahee.
4) Using a tighter (mudra) grip than normal during the meditation.

Yoga for Prayer & Blessings #8

Your Prayerful Projection!
Main Kriya: For Relieving Inner Anger (I Am a Woman, pp. 74-75 and Kundalini Yoga, Shakta Kaur
Khalsa, pp. 138-139).
Meditation: Deeksha Patra for Prayerful Stillness (The 21 Stages of Meditation, pp. 292-293).
10:30 Welcome & Tune In.
10:35 - Main Kriya.
11:10 Deep relaxation.
11:25 Meditation (22 minutes is a suggestion for the last class of an 8-class series; 31 minutes
maximum is indicated in The 21 Stages of Meditation book).
11:55 Longtime Sunshine Song and 3 Long Sat Nams.
3 Key Concepts:
1) Mantras come from the great teachers who heard--in prayerful stillness--the presence of God.
These teachers were able to express these words as beautiful and effective poetry. Mantras are
delivered by very pure channels to all people of all traditions. Mantras are words of the soul
expressed through the heart to elevate the mind in order to see the world through prayerful
stillness. They are songs of truth, both universal and intimately personal which transcend time and
space (The 21 Stages of Meditation, p. 291).
2) Great power resides in the capacity to dwell in prayerful stillness. It moves the universal field of
consciousness. It changes the inflow, our context and surroundings as an individual unit of
existence transform. When we prayerfully sit with another person who is suffering under their
imagined limitations, beliefs or circumstances, we bless them to be able to sense their own reality.
Our active witnessing is a catalyst for all that is original in teat persons life and destiny, which is
why the blessing of a teacher and a mother are so powerful.
With prayerful stillness we hope to change our karma. Prayerful stillness means we merge our
mind into the Infinite mind, which merges us with the living god in us allliberation while alive
jivan mukht (The 21 Stages of Meditation, pp. 289-290).
It is the mind, not you, that has to learn prayerfulness (Yogi Bhajan, The 21 Stages of Meditation,
p. 290).
3) Deeksha is a blessing or initiation. Patra is a vessel; one who receives something.
Key Skills:
1) Heels 6 inches off the floor (Kriya, Ex. #1).
2) Celibate Pose Bowing (Kriya, Ex. #6).
3) Sat Kriya in Easy Pose (Kriya, Ex. 10).
4) An extended period of meditation (22 or 31-minutes--teachers choice) in the last class of an 8-
class series.

Prayer & Blessings

Quotes by Yogi Bhajan

Prayer can penetrate to the very heart of God.

"If your word does not mean anything, your prayer does not mean anything either."

"Head is a computer. Heart has the power of 108 suns. Heart center is the strongest of all centers.
Whenever you pray with the head, it will take so long-you have to go through the intellect, thought,
circumstance, environment, space and time.
Whenever you sing or pray from the heart, it will be timeless, space-less and absolutely effective."

"If you never speak in anger and always speak in prayer, in ninety days your words can create
exactly what you are saying. When you speak, it shall happen."

Prayer is the ray of the soul.

You may not understand what blessing can do. Its no secret: If you bless, God immediately,
spontaneously, blesses you.

If you cannot bless yourself, then nobody can bless you.

"Your spiritual name is your designated destiny, your heavenly identity. That's all it is. You may or
may not live to it, but it is your guiding force.
And it's a prayer. It's a prayer in the other man's word. What is prayer? It is a calling. And you
answer the calling.
You get uplifted. It's a plus. It's a way of receiving people's blessings."

A person who blesses will not go empty.

What do we do when we are in trouble? We start praying. When we are not in trouble, who
cares?
Our prayers are seasonal; so are our moods, so is our temperament, so is our life.
But, in this human lifewhich averages these days 65 to 75 yearsprayer is the power.
One who can do the prayer can be very powerful because prayer makes all the elements serve that
person.
All elements, gifts will come to that person and whosoever will give to that person will be gifted a
hundred fold, a thousand fold.
That is also the beauty of it.

"God is our help, the only power we have is prayer, and the worth of life is just the grateful
moments we live.
If you remember these words, you will always find me around you."

The Prayer of the Teacher

This is your prayer, so please write it down:
Those who I was supposed to teach and am unable to, for my faults or for their faults,
I ask Thee, Oh, Lord, to forgive me and serve them in my place.
Protect them and grace them by Thy visit. Help them and elevate them by Thy Spirit.
And make them prosperous and happy so they can recognize Thee.
That is your prayer. This you say every day.
You may pray for yourself or not; you may pray for your student or not.
That has nothing to do with this prayer.
This prayer is part of you because you are a human being, used for the well-being of a person who
calls himself student.

May your designated destiny give you the power to bless yourself.
May your mind find out the richness of your existence and give you all the power and strength of
being so good and elegant.
May you start appreciating yourself in the sense of word, and in a comparative study may you be
thankful for all the virtues.
May your values be shared in all the goodness and honesty, and may you be in a position to fall in
love with you, so that you understand the basic love.
May God take away from you the interrogation of self-criticism and self-denial, and may you live
well; in His name, with His grace, for His sake.
May you all be prosperous, virtuous, compassionate, kind, and caring.
May this day bring in you the change, so you can face the coming age with strength, with self-
loyalty, and with your own virtues.
May Almighty God make you worthy of it.
Sat Nam.
