Academic Integrity Assignment

After viewing the Academic Integrity Policy and the Common


Craft: Plagiarism Video, please respond to the following
questions:

1. Plagiarism is commonly referred to as
Often, plagiarism is referred to as "the passing off of another
person's work as one's own" (Coquitlam open learning article)
2. How will student work be checked for plagiarism? (List at
least two ways)
Work will be checked for plagiarism using the plagiarism
identification software, Turnitin. Another way that it will be
checked is being compared to other work that students hand
in.

3. Sanctions for plagiarism include (list at least two possible


consequences):
Some consequences for plagiarizing are, getting a zero on
the assignment, a note on the student record, or expulsion
from the course.

4. What is the difference between accidental plagiarism and


deliberate plagiarism?
The difference between accidental and deliberate plagiarism
is that deliberate is done knowingly and accidental is done
unknowingly.

5. How can you avoid plagiarism, while still integrating support


(ideas and quotes) in your own work?
You can quote what something says directly, but put
quotation marks around it as well as a mention of the
author's name. Also you can use your own words by
paraphrasing and summarizing and changing words from the
source, and always referencing and giving some credit to the
original source.

6. Other than the written work, what other items can be


plagiarized? Can you still use these items? How?
Speeches, drawings, music, structural models, and statistics,
can all be plagiarized, so it is important to give credit to the
original source/ author.

7. Do some internet research and find at least one website (not


listed in the Academic Integrity Policy or on the Common
Craft Video) that helped you understand how to avoid
plagiarism.
