SAN FRANCISCO, June 22, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- The Leukemia &
Lymphoma Society's (LLS) Greater Bay Area Chapter will be hosting its
Pacific Union Leukemia Cup Regatta on October 22-23, 2016 at The San
Francisco Yacht Club (SFYC) in Belvedere, Calif. The Leukemia Cup
Regatta VIP Dinner will take place on October 22 with special guest
speaker Ethan Zohn, former American professional soccer player, CBS
Survivor: Africa winner, blood cancer survivor and philanthropist. The
event will then continue on October 23 with the Pacific Union Leukemia
Cup Regatta competition and festivities. Celebrating its 11 year, the Bay
Area event has raised over $6.2 million since 2006 to support LLS's
mission to find a cure for blood cancers and improve the quality of life
for patients and their families.This year the Bay Area's leading luxury real estate brokerage, Pacific
Union Real Estate, will serve as the Title Sponsor of the Leukemia Cup
Regatta. With the support of Pacific Union, sailors from around the Bay
Area will be able to raise more than sails to honor local blood cancer
patients and survivors, recognized as honorary skippers, and sailors of all
levels are encouraged to fundraise, participate and attend the two-day
event. This year's honorary skippers include Douglas Holmes, Drake
Jensen, Steve Johnson, Chris Kostanecki, Rhett Krawitt, Brit Lacey, Chris
Laub, Campbell Nolan, Bernard O'Driscoll, Lynn Spiller and Robert
Wilson. This year's campaign kicked off on April 28, 2016 at the SFYC
with guest speaker Dr. Mignon Loh, Pediatric Oncologist and Researcher
with UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital.
On October 22, the 2" Annual Perkins Corporate Challenge will launch
from the St. Francis Yacht Club in San Francisco. A sailing competition
among prominent Bay Area companies to show united support in
seeking a cure for blood cancers, corporate teams of four will compete on
3/22 class sailboats to win the Thomas Perkins Trophy. The trophy will be
presented to the winning team at the VIP Dinner that evening. On
October 23, the Pacific Union Leukemia Cup Regatta will begin with a
Sponsor Breakfast at 10 a.m. at the SFYC and boats will board at
approximately 11:30 a.m. Non-racing activities will include a Cruising
Class on-the-water parade of power and sail boats, which will host
sponsors and honorary skippers. The Leukemia Cup Regatta Awards
Celebration and BBQ will begin at 4 p.m.
Registration for the 2016 Pacific Union Leukemia Cup Regatta is now
open at www. leukemiacupsf.org and is $125 for sailboats and $100 for
cruising boats, which will be added to the individuals’ personal
fundraising total. VIP Dinner seats may be purchased for $1,000 per
person by calling 415-625-1139. Fundraisers may qualify for seats if they
raise at least $2,500 per seat with a two seat maximum. You may view
