Stacking faults are of two types called as intrinsic and extrinsic. Intrinsic fault results in
cone break whereas extrinsic fault results in two breaks in the stacking sequence as shown
in Fig. 1.37.

Stacking faults are easily revealed after etching by a colour difference under the optical
eroscope because the fault region (HCP) etches in a different manner than the basic FCC
. Such stacking faults may occur during crystal growth or may result from the
tion of two partial dislocations
Low angle boundary : When the orientation of grains differ by only few degrees, a
angle boundary is formed between the two grains. A low angle tilt boundary consists of
cations lying one above the other in the boundary (Fig. 1.38).
