Discussion Question 1 Post your response to the following: Everyone differs slightly in what they consider attractive or beautiful

. Do you believe certain attributes are universally attractive? What are these attributes? Do you believe one’s sense of beauty is intrinsic or learned? What influence do the media and one’s peers have on the concept of beauty? What other factors influence the perception of attraction? I believe that a sense of beauty is both learned and intrinsic. For instance, there are certain personal attributes that I call universal attributes. These include nice teeth, clear skin, and certain eye colors. I also think that universal beauty can be seen in phenomenon such as sunrises, which would be intrinsic. That part of humans that is intrinsic beauty would be what I call inner beauty. That part of you that you show in your personality and your approach to life. This inner beauty is the way in which you carry yourself. Our physical beauty is more of the learned kind. It is part of how we are taught to prepare our outer selves. It is expressed in how we dress and work and exercise. This is all learned beauty. We learn what looks healthy and beautiful to us and what appearance will reveal how we feel about ourselves. 3. Discussion Question 2 Post your response to the following: Relationships, similar to people, encounter stages of development. Describe how a person moves through each of the five stages of Levinger’s ABC’s of relationships model. As you write your description, include answers to the following questions: What do you think people look for in the attraction stage? How do people work on building a relationship? What are some positive factors which foster the continuation of a relationship? What steps can a couple take to avoid the deterioration phase? Describe how a person moves through each of the five stages of Levinger's ABC's of relationship model. The Levinger model defines the stages of relationship as being attraction, building, continuing, deterioration and ending stages. Attraction is simply that, being attracted to another person. Building is the stage in which you get to know the other person. Continuing is learning to trust and loving that other person. The deterioration stage involves giving the relationship time. And the ending stage is gaining an understanding of the problems in the relationship. What do you think people look for in the attraction stage? I think that they look at the appearance and presentation that the person makes. This is a visual phase in which the attraction arises from the person’s form and presence.

What are some positive factors which foster the continuation of a relationship? Positive factors include fostering mutual interests. Being together can help the relationship to expand rather than to deteriorate. Financial and other responsibility need to be demonstrated as well in fostering continuation of the relationship. demonstrating caring and commitment to the relationship and showing that you have confidence in the other person without any jealousy or insecurity. attitudes and attractions they share and finding ways to expand these parts of their relationship. This gives the relationship the energy required for it to thrive. How do people work on building a relationship? They do this by determining what interests. gaining trust through being genuine with the other person. . Time indicates commitment and effort from each individual. What steps can a couple take to avoid the deterioration phase? Taking time for one another is a key step that couples can take to avoid deterioration.
