Emergency Management
Procedures 2016-2017

Overview of Manual
The emergency procedures are to be followed unless a situation arises
in which reasonableness necessitates a variation in order to protect lives
in imminent danger.

Each classroom must have a manual.


The front pocket must contain the colored
Quick Reference Sheet for drills
The building evacuation and the lockdown
sections have quick guides.
The back pocket will house building phone
list, class rosters, red and green cards,
school map and evacuation line up sheets.

Fire Evacuation
1. Secure Windows, turn off lights and leave
door unlocked
2. Bring emergency binder with attendance
rosters and escort class out the closest
emergency exit (posted in each room)
3. Once outside, line class up away from roads
and parking lots. Take Attendance.
4. Hold up a green card if all students are
accounted for and everything is okay. Hold
up a red card if students are missing, you
have an extra student or any other concerns.

Primary School Evacuations


Verbal Command: Building Evacuation
All of the same procedures apply as the Fire Evacuation
Follow the evacuation route listed in the manual to show
direction of the evacuation
Students and staff will proceed to the area between the
black fencing (located between the two softball fields)
Staff will wait for further instruction from building
administration and/or designee
If deemed necessary, evacuation will continue to the
Plumsted Township Municipal Building, located on
Evergreen Road.

Elementary School Evacuations


Evacuate the same as a fire drill
Continue evacuation to soccer
field across street

Middle School Evacuations


Code Barn, Code Field,
Code High School/Middle School
All of the same procedures apply as a Fire
Evacuation.
Follow the evacuation route listed in manual to
show direction of evacuation.
Code Barn is an evacuation to the barn
Code Field is an evacuation to the practice
football field next to the stadium.
High School is an evacuation to the high school
gymnasium

School Lockdowns
Lockdown = there is an intruder inside
the building.
a. Lock the classroom door.
b. Do not allow anyone in or out of the classroom
once locked (this includes emergency personnel-they must use a key to unlock the door).
c. Move all students away from windows and doors out
of sight.
d. Turn off lights and computer screens
e. Ignore all bells and alarms until notified by admin. or
emergency personnel.
f. If there is a medical emergency use a phone to call
911 and the main office at extension 5000, 5001, or
5002.
g. If you are outside, assemble your class quickly and
go to a safe area, out of danger. Once in a safe
area, take attendance.

School Lockdowns
Lockdown, please reenter the
building = there is an active threat
outside the building.
a. Lock the classroom door.
b. Do not allow anyone in or out of the classroom
once locked (this includes emergency personnel-they must use a key to unlock the door).
c. Move all students away from windows and doors out
of sight.
d. Turn off lights and computer screens
e. Ignore all bells and alarms until notified by admin. or
emergency personnel.
f. If there is a medical emergency use a phone to call
911 and the main office at extension 5000, 5001, or
5002.
g. If you are outside, assemble your class quickly and
reenter the building. Get to the nearest classroom
and follow Lockdown procedures.

School Lockdowns
Shelter-in-Place
a. Lock the classroom door
b. Do not allow anyone out of the classroom once
locked, but allow students into the classroom at
anytime.
c. Call the main office to report missing or nonscheduled, extra students
d. Continue with instruction as usual
e. Remain inside the classroom or other locked location
until notified by administration that it is okay to enter
the hallways.
f. If there is a medical emergency use a phone to call
911 and the main office at extension 2100.

Code Blue AED


1. A Code Blue AED is a medical emergency
used if a person is not breathing, is choking or
has no pulse
2. Notify the office by sending someone or getting
a colleague to call the main office
3. Call 911 (CPR should be started immediately)
4. The office will announce and repeat three
times, Code Blue AED Team to (location)
5. The office will announce Shelter-in-Place to
clear the hallways
6. The AED Team immediately responds to the
location

Emergency Procedures
The emergency procedures are to be followed unless a
situation arises in which reasonableness necessitates a
variation in order to protect lives in imminent danger.

Staff should keep up on all procedures


throughout the year.
There will be 1 fire drill per month.
There will be 1 security drill per month.
There will be at least two evacuation drills per
year.
Shelter-in-Place is in addition to the required
monthly security drill
The Code Blue AED drill should be practiced 1
time per year for the response team
