LESSON PLANNING GRADE 11 COMPUTER APPLICATIONS TECHNOLOGY

TOPIC: INPUT AND OUTPUT DEVICES

LEARNING OUTCOMES:
By the end of the lesson learners should be able to:  Distinguish inputs and outputs devices  Make informed decisions regarding I/O device to be used for a specific problem/scenario  Recognize the potential for human error when using technology  Transfer skills from familiar to unfamiliar contexts

INPUT

DEVICES

The data and instructions that a computer receives are called input. The hardware that receives data is called input devices. The examples of input devices are keyboard, mouse, scanner, graphics tablet, trackball, touch pad, touch screen, joystick, Barcode reader, light Pen, Digital Camera and Microphone.

KEYBOARD
The most general way to enter data is through the keyboard. The keyboard is a direct line of communication between the user and the computer.

• Output devices
The information that a computer produces is called output. The information in the computer is in the form of binary code. Output devices decode binary

code to a format that can be read and understood by the user. Examples of output devices are: monitor, printers, speakers and plotter.
