Pipe and tube manufactured by Michigan Seamless Tube is cold drawn (cold finished) to customer specific order requirements. Raw material in the form of solid round billets arrives in a broad selection of grades and sizes. Heated in a rotary hearth furnace, each billet is indented in the exact center before entering the rotary piercing mill where a hydraulic ram feeds the billet between heavy rollers that drive it over a piercing point to produce a tube shell. While still hot, the tubes are reduced in size in a stretch reducing mill. This produces tube shells of superior concentricity. After cooling, the tube shell is cold worked. The draw bench pulls it over the stationary die and over a mandrel improving grain structure, surface condition, increasing
hardness and reducing the tubes to the desired size and thickness within very close tolerances. After cold working, the tubes go to the annealing furnace where variations of temperature, time and the number of cycles produces a wide range of hardness and tensile strength to meet the standards and customer requirements. After straightening to desired tolerances, the tubes are cut to length then checked by eddy current and demagnetized. Throughout the process the tubes receive minimal handling to ensure excellent surface finishes. Before being shipped, the tubes are extensively tested to ensure quality and a test report is then provided to the customer with each shipment.
Michigan Seamless Tube offers a full line of mechanical and pressure products to ASTM ASME and API in a broad selection of grades, shapes and sizes for a variety of applications: Power Generation, Boilers, OCTG (Oil Country), Aircraft & Aerospace, Automotive, Transportation, Heavy Equipment, Agriculture, and Mining to name just a few. We specialize in quenched and tempered tubular products through strategic alliances with state-of-the-art heat treating facilities. Michigan Seamless Tube is TUV, QS-9000, and ISO 9001:2000 certified. MSTube also meets ASTM/ASME, AMS, SAE, DIN, JIS and military specifications. MSTube offers NCA3800 nuclear capabilities and complies to “Buy American” requirements.
Mechanical Tubing is cold drawn (cold finished) and possesses exceptional strength-toweight ratios, excellent surface quality, and dimensional accuracy in a wide range of mechanical properties. Pressure Tubing requires an uncompromising level of quality because of the critical end-use applications. Strict production standards and procedures are required to meet the precise ASTM/ASME and individual specifications required for heat exchangers, condenser and boilers. We offer complete non-destructive testing equipment including ultrasonic, eddy current and hydrostatic to ensure quality standards are met for all worldwide industry and customer specifications. We produce MLR (multi lead rifled) boiler tubing. 4130 Aircraft Tubing is cold drawn (cold finished), stress relieved annealed and heat treated to meet the needs of the aircraft and aerospace industry. MSTube 4130 is certified to the following general specifications: A519, MIL-T-6736 B (AMS-T-6736A), AMS6371 and AMS-6360 with decarburization levels to AMS-6371. WE MEET DOMESTIC-ONLY REQUIREMENTS..
Standard Pipe is available in numerous grades, alloys and specifications. As design engineers find more uses for pipe, and operational requirements on pipe are more demanding, today’s specifications are intensely precise. Michigan Seamless Tube is capable of supplying steel pipe of impressive superior quality to meet exact specifications. Cold drawn seamless pipe is produced to 1/2” IPS through 4” IPS schedules (12.7 mm IPS through 101.6 mm IPS). Single and double random, or custom lengths. Michigan Seamless offers NCA-3800 nuclear capabilities.

Michigan Seamless Tube free machining steel tubing includes all the popular resulfurized and rephosphorized grades. Users can realize a definite economic advantage between comparable free machining bar and XTROCUT tubing when manufacturing parts that require hole drilling. Production time is improved, tooling is cheaper, waste is minimized. The bottom line is that costs are reduced. In addition to the XTROCUT line, special chemistries that enhance machinability can be developed by Michigan Seamless Tube experienced Technical Services Engineers.
Time after time, industry applications have proven that you can choose XTROCUT over bar stock and improve machinability and the quality of the finished part. With the “hole” already in place, expensive timeconsuming drilling stations can be replaced with less expensive faster boring operations. Coolants can be directed to the inside as well as outside surface. Using XTROCUT for through-bored parts means less scrap, more parts per hour and improved profit. Extensive metal movement during hot forming coupled with cold drawing work through a die and over a mandrel provides precise control over mechanical properties and orderly distribution of sulfide inclusions giving XTROCUT excellent lubricity. Heat generated during machining dissipates quickly helping control build-up and slough-off on tool edges. Tools run cooler, stay sharp longer and surface finish is improved considerably.
