RUTGERS QUICK TIP Keep Crops Coming Back with Careful Cutting When you harvest leafy crops like spinach or lettuce, cut the leaves high enough to preserve the plant’s growing tip. The plant will produce more leaves and you’ll get more food from the plants. This means leaving 1-2” at the base of the leaves for the plant to regrow from when clipping mature crops. Be sure to keep the base plants watered after harvesting.
