•some Rocks are formed by A volcanoes eruption.

First the volcano erupts

and sends out lava and rocks flying, some of the rocks fall into the river and
some on land then the lava hardens and forms a rock.

•We found our rocks in the Waikato river which means it could have originally
came from Taupo meaning the rocks may have came from Mt Ruapehu, Mt
Tongaririo, Mt ngauruhoe or many others located in Taupo. To get from Taupo
to where we found it, it would have rolled along the bottom of the river for
several months!
What is igneous? Igneous is a type of rock formed through the
solidification of magma and lava.
What is erosion?- Erosion is the process that
breaks things down. Erosion is the breakdown of
the continents and the land around you. The effect
of breaking down and weathering the land is called
Denudation is the process of erosion. In nature,
large things are broken down into smaller things.
Boulders become sand. Mountains are rained on and
become hills. The pieces of the mountain become
smaller pieces and go down the sides of hills.
Weathering and erosion always happen in a downhill
direction.
Our rock that we found was an ignimbrite.
Ignimbrites are made of ash and gases that flows rapidly from
a volcano, Ignimbrites are often volcanic rocks. Ignimbrites
are made of a very poorly sorted mixture of volcanic ash.
In this diagram here it shows you
where
Our rock started and where we found
it.

It may look like a small distance

but for a rock to travel by river
from Taupo to Hamilton is a
very long way.
our rock at the beginning
Our rock is an ignimbrite, it has came from Taupo and has
travelled down the Waikato river for an estimate of 1800 years.
As that was the last volcanic eruption Around the Taupo area.
Our rock began as a huge boulder but over the 1800 years has
been broken by erosion , Weather change and from being
smashed against other rocks
The Colour of the outside of our rock- orange, crème, grey,
black.
The shape of our rock before being broken- circular, oval
The size of our rock- 2cm wide and 3cm long
The texture of our rock- bumpy,
Grainy, bubbly
The colour of the inside of the rocks- white, brown, grey and
orange
The texture of the inside of our rock rough, grainy, pointy,
jaggered.
