Almost two years went by. With no progression. I felt a decision had to be made. So…
I QUIT MY JOB AT A LOCAL TIRE SHOP,
-October 31st 2006: enlisted in the US Army
-November 12th I was on to Oklahoma.
THE NEXT 4 MONTHS WEREN’T MINE
Winter in Oklahoma was in the negatives .
Sickness spread. Snow storms. Even a tornado in the spring. MY PARENTS CAME OUT TO SEE MY GRADUATION I was told I would be stationed at Fort Hood, TX. DURING MY TIME IN TEXAS -Work was work, and routine. -I was allowed all the freedoms of “normal life” -I began to apply myself toward a career. I spent one year stateside before my deployment. Up until this point, I had began to lean toward a possible career enlistment.
School wasn’t something I wanted anymore.
JUNE 10TH, 2008
The tail end of President Bush’s “Troop Surge” -4th Brigade: Over 4000+ strong
-6 battalions of 600-800 each
-each battalion: 3-6 companies
of 50- 100 people.
-each company had at least 2 platoons
ranging from 10-30 people. JUNE 15TH, 2009 We went home 3 months earlier than planned. I had changed my mind and decided to pursue my ambitions in School. In our small platoon, everyone came back. I quietly finished out the rest of my days.
On my last Friday, there was a goodbye ceremony. On March 10th 2010 I was released from active duty.
I drove 1,700 miles from Texas to California
For the last time.
AND NOW HERE I AM.
Somewhere new again. DIGITAL STORYTELLING: ADV100 John Nast
