What Healthcare Reform Will Deliver...

This Year

After a full year of debate, filibuster, town-hall disruptions, fake grassroots movements and other
stall, divisive, disrespectful and possibly violent tactics by right-wing conservatives, President
Obama is finally discussing the passing of a healthcare reform bill that meet the need and
concern of ALL Americans. Some will say that it's about time, but that he didn't say anything
new. He's not making them pass the bill he wants.

Obama was elected by a landslide majority of Americans because he promised change. We'd
grown weary of the way that the former administration had perverted and corrupted government.
We wanted a change in the way that the business of government was being done in our name.
When the previous administration wanted something, they'd ramrod it through, with the minority
party and any opposition being all but crushed. This got things done quickly but at the cost of
alienating over half of the country, (the true majority). When we elected Obama, we signaled that
we wanted a change from that way of doing business, and he is delivering.

Sure like everyone else, I sometimes grow impatient and even disgusted with Senators Lincoln,
Nelson, Landrieu, etc., but I appreciate that they are part of the democrats checks and balance.
Change, in anything, hardly ever come easy and things often get worse before they get better.
For the process of change to be effective, we have to persevere and let it run its full course of
adjustment. Uncertainty can be quite fearful to some people. Look at it this way... when the
slaves were "set out", (history calls it set free), the prospect of making a way and fending for
themselves was very, very frightening. Even knowing the inhumanities, evils, debauchery and
horrors inflicted on them as slaves, many wanted to trade the unknown of "freedom" for the
security of slavery. Occasionally, I want Obama to just go and kick some legislative butt.
However, this in essence, would interfere with the cycle of change and we'd have to start that
long process all over again.

In actuality, the writing of the healthcare reform bill IS the job of the legislature, not the
president. The president adds his opinion when the bill comes to him for signing. He can sign it
as is or reject it and tell them what he would like to see in it. THAT's how our government was
designed to work and often did before special interest groups and corporate lobbyist began freely
walking the halls of government spreading money around. We have to get back to government of
the people, for the people.

We do this by getting behind our president and letting him know that he is not fighting this battle
for change alone. The average American had no idea what the thought of change would bring
about in this country. White America never suspected that the idea of a black man in the white
house would cause some to act like they were in a third world nation. These last few years since
911 have really been putting American democracy to the test and I'm sorry to say that America is
failing miserably. Funny, I remember how outraged Americans were to find that Afghanistan did
not allow women the right of self-determination. Now those same people want to obstruct the
operation of the government duly elected by the people. We can no longer leave this to the
democrats when even members of his party have trouble accepting the leadership of a black
man.  We can no longer allow misinformation and falsehoods to go unchecked.

By the way, through all of this, where has the Democratic National Committee been? I know I
get emails asking for donations. Honestly, I don't even know who the chairperson is. They've
been absent in this fight when it is THEY who should be holding the party together. I've grown
weary of the counter-productivity of those who profess to support the Democratic Principles.
Let's hope that they find a way to make this healthcare reform bill work for the benefit of all
Americans or let them face the wrath of angry democrat, independent and progressive voters.
