Coq au Vin

6 slices bacon 1.5lb roaster chicken or 8 chicken halves 6-8 boiling onions 1/4lb mushrooms cut in half 8 small new potatoes 1 clove garlic, minced 1 c green onions, sliced salt and pepper to taste 1/2 tsp. dried thyme 1 c chicken broth 1 c white or red wine chopped parsley in large skillet, saute diced bacon and green onions until bacon is crisp. remove and drain. add chicken pieces and brown on all sides. remove and set aside. place peeled onions, mushrooms, potatoes and garlic in crockpot. add browned chicken, bacon and green onions, salt, pepper, thyme and chicken broth. cover and cook for 8-10 hours or 4-5 hours on high. add wine during last hour.
