Andrea’s First Birthday Party
We had a cake for each boy, matching the monkey theme.
I made T-shirts for each boy to wear on the day and they had their own party hats (which were a different
colour to the rest of the kids). For party packs we made red and yellow play dough and put some in used
baby food jars, together with some sweets.
For food we made monkey face biscuits, monkey cupcakes and racing car biscuits with jelly baby men. I had
made cones out of the patterned paper to use for popcorn but ended up using the cones to put sweets in
for the kids to carry around.
Unfortunately we just could not get a picture of the 3 boys together on the day, they were into everything!!

GOOD TO KNOW
A sprinkle is a smaller scale baby shower in which guests “sprinkle” the new
mom with the little necessities she needs for second/third baby. It is not a
full blown “shower”, but just a light sprinkling of gifts.
Baby showers first came about as a way for friends and family to gather in a celebration to help a new mom
prepare for the baby. With a first child, a new mom needs to stock up on lots of baby supplies, including
the big ticket items. It used to be that baby showers were only held for the first child. The baby sprinkle
started as an idea to celebrate all children, since they are all a gift. It allows for a smaller baby shower, since
the mom-to-be would need less this time around, and possible different items if the age gap is quite big or
the new baby is of a different gender. So the focus is on the little necessities like nappies, wet wipes, bath
products, bottles, outfits, books and toys.

This past weekend my friend, Rachelle, and I threw a baby shower for our friend,
Debran. She did all the food and I did all of the decor – it worked out perfectly.
I wanted to do a theme that I haven’t seen or isn’t super popular right now. Then
I started thinking about vintage/classic toys. I loved the idea especially since
there were so many different ways you could go with it. I have been planning for
months now; during which I found out I am pregnant and am having a boy too!
I have been so inspired by the theme that I actually think I am going to do the
baby’s nursery in it!

Balloons are a necessity at any event, right? I was so excited to find these wagon balloons. Of course
I had to use my chalkboard to welcome guests.
I created a sign in for her as a keepsake. I had arranged with my friend Sarah to take maternity
pictures of Debran. We surprised her with a collage - her pictures turned out so cute!
How I am totally in love with sock monkeys now! Target has the cutest classic toy replica section and
I was able to find a lot of toys there including this cute sock monkey jack in the box. I found these
vintage ducks on ebay. I love them and I found this vintage plane and an old bucket at a local antique
store as well I put together a toy tree.
I loved how so many things I found were magnetic. So it was perfect for the alphabet/number
magnets. I loved creating little sayings out of blocks around the house; I even was able to create the
due date!
I hung a bunch of lanterns over the centre island where the food was served and I made a banner.
I created a clothesline and I thought a slinky would make for a more appropriate clothesline.

The food was so yummy. I don’t think I actually got a picture of everything: there were yummy
appetizers, 3 different salads, fruit, bread and jam. I forgot to take pictures of the plates but like
the napkins I had toy plates for appetizers and square polka dot plates for lunch.
FUN AND GAMES
For one of the games, I did a guess how
many blocks are in the jar (instead of
the usual candy, etc). Another game we
played was the candy bar baby game. I
had found it here a long time ago and
had bookmarked it. It was something
different and so fun! Rachelle did the
baby in the ice game: whoever got their
baby out first won! I wish I would have
taken pictures of everyone doing that!
FAVOURS
Cracker jacks for favors were given to
everyone and my sister, Melissa, created
the stickers for me.
We are both on our third baby and have been pregnant every single time together (we didn’t know
each other yet with the first one) but our girls are a couple weeks apart, our boys are also about 6
weeks apart, and then again our boys will be a couple months apart. How funny, huh? How often
does that happen? Debran is also entertaining the idea of a vintage toy nursery now too! It’s
definitely a fun and happy theme! I can’t wait to bounce ideas off of each other!

A Sip and See is basically a casual type of baby shower that is held after the baby
arrives instead of before. Friends and family are invited to drop by “open house
style” within a certain time frame to meet the baby (see) and enjoy light food and
drinks (sip).
INVITATIONS
Invitations are sent out after the baby is born. Check
in with the parents to set a date and a block of time.
DECORATIONS
Some balloons and bouquets of flowers will add the
party touch.

Finger foods and a variety of drinks make up this
simple menu.

Take traditional party games with a Where’s Wally spin:
Where’s Wally Treasure Hunt

Organise a traditional treasure hunt, but instead of hiding the treasure, print and cut out our Wally
featured on the first page numerous times. Attach him to bamboo skewers and then hide them in
and around the party area. Make some fairly easy and others quite difficult. Then have the kids see
how many Wally’s they can find. To make it fair, have each Wally remain where he is and rather write
on the back a secret word that the finder must jot down. Then reward each child with a small prize
for each Wally secret password that they find.
Pin the Pom Pom.

Create a enlarged face of Wally complete with glasses and hat but no pom pom on the top. Then
blind fold each guest hand them a pom pom with prestik on the end and see if they can pop it on
top of his stripy beanie. Award a small prize to the winner.
Pass the Parcel

Buy a Where’s Wally book and photocopy the pages. Then wrap a small prize over and over again in
sheets of the paper. Play pass the parcel, so that when the music stops the kid must open the layer
and if they can find Wally on that piece of paper in a designated period of time they can win a small
prize. Pass the parcel around the circle until the last layer of paper has been opened and this person
wins the small prize contained inside.

A Where’s Wally look-a-like

Wally should never be hard to spot again. Create a crowd of Wally’s with this fun distracting disguise
kit. Set up a red and white stripe background and take photos of each of the guests sporting a
Where’s Wally disguise. A fun idea is to also take a group photo with the guest of honour dressed up
as Wally. This would make the perfect photo to add to thank you cards sent out afterwards.

It may be cold outside, but this Winter bring the garden indoors, by arranging
both flowers and vegetables for pretty table centerpieces. Fill wooden or ceramic
flowerpots with seasonal veggies, flowers and herbs. Forgo a vase and hollow out
hole in a cabbage and fill with beautiful blooms and herbs. Serve warm salads of
roasted vegetables and fruit and nut tarts with custard and lots of thick whipped
cream.
REAL GOOD THINGS WE LOVE:
• A custom Save the Date and Invitation designed by In Good Co. were emailed to guests – not only making the
sending and rsvping super easy, but also an environmentally friendly alternative.
• Bunches of red and white roses were pegged and tied with ribbon bows to topiary Iceberg trees down the
length of the driveway.
• Throughout the party area, paper garlands and bunting from In Good Co. were strung up and large Alice in
Wonderland cut outs from Crazy Chameleon were dotted all over – a great way to get across a specific theme.
• Black top hats, giant playing cards and ceramic bunnies were also intermingled among teapots and jugs (all
from In Good Co.) filled with bunches of colourful flowers. We love how Nat’s mom, Wendy decorated them
with flower metallic stickers!
• The photo booth complete with the Mad Hatter’s 10/6 top hat. (Natalie emailed these afterwards to all her
guests – a wonderful surprise!)

a French Country themed Sip & See. With toile
du jour on the stationery and champagne and cake
on the menu, guests were able to enjoy the late
afternoon sun and the new arrival.

crackers, fruit and chutney jam.

Champagne served with blueberries on bamboo

skewers and lavender sprigs placed on dainty

Guests were greeted with a Lavender and Butterfly

wreath on the door and paper bunting stringed up in
the entrance hall.

home industry biltong and cheese puffs and chipolatas
wrapped in phyllo pastry added a touch of comfort to the
menu. Cupcakes were made by Celeste and iced in different
shades of lilac and lavender and decorated with edible
glitter, silver baubles and tiny hearts.
