In Presenting this Catalogue

WE TAKE a pardonable pride in claiming for it the highest excellence. We have endeavored to make each illustration as exact and clear as the art of photography and engraving can produce, without considering the expense. Absolute reliance may be placed on the representations and descriptions. Almost every design appearing in it is new and entirely different from those of any other factory, being exclusive designs of our own.

In ordering from us you are assured of getting from first hands, which means the lowest possible prices for the goods offered, prompt shipments, and qualities equalled by no other factory not prepared with such perfect facilities for the production of the very best at our low prices.

A man builds about one good house in his lifetime, and he wants to make it right. a matter how perfect it may be in its plan or in its decoration, it can be marred by a poor mantel. These mantels are correct in every way and are triumphs of artistic conception and masterful workmanship. Our whole aim in the mantel business is to make mantels that are in harmony with the tone of beauty and architecture in every modern house, whether it be a modest artistic dwelling or a palatial residence, rich in its elaborate detail.

Lumber and Woods. One of the most important factors in constructing fine mantels is the lumber. No matter how excellent the cabinet work, the result is unsatisfactory unless the lumber is right. In this, the twentieth century, with all its wonderful inventions-strange as it may seem -no man has yet succeeded in devising a process for the rapid drying or curing of lumber equal to nature's method. Lumber treated in nature's way is superior in every respect. It is not so susceptible to the atmosphere, nor to the heat, and will not warp, swell nor shrink-and more than this, the lumber has a beauty and life in it that the rapid process of kiln-drying destroys. The woods used in the construction of our mantels are cut from

selected trees, after which the lumber is piled on sticks in the open lard, where it remains for twelve months, becoming thoroughly seasoned an airdried. It is then placed in the kiln, .where it remains until all the dampness from the atmosphere is taken out. This insures the lumber to be as near perfect as possible, and very superior to the rapid methods of rushing the lumber from the saw mill green into the kiln, and thereby destroying the life and beauty of the wood.

Our Finish. The finish given all our mantels, except those described with superior gloss finish, is a four-coated, hand-rubbed and hand-polished piano polish. It will not soak into the wood and lose its lustre with age, as is the case with many makes.

Sizes. Mantels are always made five feet wide, except on special orders,

though the wall plates on the sides can be extended several inches to cover the breast (front) of almost any ordinary chimney. Any variation from regular sizes compels a change in the work and makes an extra charge necessary.

Grates. Grates are made in a number of patterns, but all of the very best castings, which will not be affected by any degree of heat. Some are highly

I ~tii~shed, plated, or otherwise ornamented, and any preferred grate can be sub-

IL_uted for the one appearing in :e illustration, as all are interchangeable. The ~

openings (in the chimneys) for grates should be thirty inches high, thirteen inches deep, either twenty-four or thirty inches wide, as grates are in these sizes.

Enameled Tiles for Hearths and Facings. Enameled tiles are made in such a variety of colors and styles, that any taste can be met in this particular. On information as to your wishes in this regard, we make most careful selections, or if left to us, we select the best and most harmonious colors and designs which our experience tells us would suit your requirements. All hearths are sixty inches by twenty-one inches, but tile for twenty-four inch hearths can be had at an additional cost of fifty cents net.

Floor and Wall Tiles. We make a specialty of floor and wall tiles for vestibules, halls, bath rooms, public buildings, etc., and as this is a branch of growing value to intending builders, we invite correspondence. With the correct measurements and your ideas of their use, we will prepare colored sketches and submit for inspection, and at the same time quote you very low prices.

Mantels are made and carried in stock as per description under each illustration and ordinarily can be furnished promptly.

Oak Mantels are finished in Natural, Weathered and Golden, the Golden

being now the most popular and up-to-date finish.

Birch (curly and plain) finished in Natural and Imitation Mahogany. Maple (bird's-eye and white) finished in Natural.

Extra Charge is made for Curly Birch, Bird's-eye Maple, Mahogony, white enamel and white and gold, and other woods not specified and priced under each mantel. This price will depend on the woods and finish to be furnished and the design of the mantel and will be quoted on application.

Extra Charge is also made for changing sizes of mantels, if the changes cannot be made by shifting the wall plates.

Our Liberal Offer and Guarantee

We have such confidence in the superiority of our mantels over all other makes that we make the most liberal offer and guarantee that a manufacturer can make.

We will ship our mantels to any fair-minded and responsible person, with the understanding that they are not only equal, but superior to any other make; that the finish, workmanship, carving and artistic beauty are of a higher character; and that if they are not fully up to these representations, they can be returned to the depot AT ONCE and to us, and we will pay the freight both ways. There is no risk for you to assume-s-it all rests with us, and we do our part-s-have been doing it for eight years.

Every Mantel We Make is Worth the Money

In comparison to the general run of mantels they are worth much more than we ask. With them goes the sense of having the best of their kind---a worthy piece of furniture, suited to its place and surrounding.

Cash or Satisfactory Reference Should Accompany Order

Goods will be shipped C. O. D. if desired, on receipt of $10, as an evidence of good faith, and money will be refunded if goods are not as represented.

Automatic Grate

301! X 301{ 2412 X 30 ~;j' G;.d", Star

24 inch Grate. 20 inch Grate.

The leading feature of this grate wherein it excels all others is:

Its curved corrugated top which reflects the heat into the room.

Improved method of operating upper damper <with thumb screw) which permits it to be opened any desired width without danger of dropping.

Damper attachments are of malleable iron. Extra heavy grate bars. Back bar and trunnions are protected under back, preventing same from warping or being clogged with cinders.

It has double basket with extra wide space between them, which allows the ashes to fall behind the screen.

The above improvements are not found in any other grate made.

I t also has dam per in both basket fron t and ash screen whereby fire can be kept under control an indefinite period, same as a stove.

Fire pot is full.Iined with fire tile to a height that will protect back from live coals. The tile can be renewed without removing the grate.

The shaker head is of malleable iron. The grate bottom, besides freeing itself of ashes when being operated, opens up the fire and does not jar the grate from position.

All parts are extra h ea vy and so constructed as not to be easily burned or warped, and can be readily renewed if neceSS1UY,

Hoods of all Sun-Ray frames are double, or lined, so as to preserve the plating.

The "Trium

THIS grate is now made with curved top, and

our improved thum-screw or worm method of opening upper damper-same as in the Monarchand for a medium price grate suitable for soft coal, has no equal either in finish, construction or weight. All casti ngs exposed to the fire are heavier tha n any grate made of similar construction.

These grates differ from the "Sun-Ray" in that they have fire tile in back only, with iron sides and air chamber which prevents burning otrhooThe trunnions and back bar of the shaker bottom are not protected, though, as in the "Sun-Ray."

They are made either with shaker or dumping bottom, open, or damper in, ash screen.

As these grates do not require any material in setting and have the double draft system preventing smoking chimneys, we recommend them for all cases where a medium price grate is wanted.

NOTE-These grates have loose CtOSS piece between dampers which can be removed so as to permit of free access to fasten in grate.

Important Prac 'cal Points on Open Fir ... Places

AGATN$T any known appliance. the open grate or Fire Place is conceded by all acknowledged authorities to be the most conducive to good health, as an efficient ventilator and purifier of the dwelling, and the most cheerful, rom the fact that by exposing a body of live coal it effuses rays of both light and heat to the home, at once comforting and pleasing to its occupants.

With the experience of several years, we feel confident that in presenting to the trade our Patent TRIUMPH, and SUN-RAY. also VULCAN and IMPERIAL Grates, we have combined more that is practical and economical. and at the same time contain such valuable and original features as to thoroughly overcome defects that customers have complained of heretofore in all Open Grates.
