Explain Rules and Medals:
Medals: Tell the children the games that they will be playing today and any rules
that you decide on. Then tell the children about the medals that will be given at the end of the
Olympics. (i.e.: Team with Best Sportsmanship, Best Team Spirit, etc.) We were going to have: Team
with Best Sportsmanship, Best Team Spirit, Best Listeners, and Over-all Winners.

Begin Olympics!!!

The Events (11:15-

(11:15-12:15 PM)
Event #1
Sponge Pass: Have each team stand in a line (Each person facing one way). At the beginning of
each line is a bucket full of water with a sponge in it. And at the very end of the line is an empty
bucket. When the whistle is blown the first person in the line must get the sponge and absorb as much
water as possible then they must pass it to the next person in their line, but they have to pass it over
their head. The next person will pass it to the next person through their legs. Then over their
head....through their legs... and so on so on. The person at the end will get the sponge and then
squeeze the water out into the empty bucket and then run it up to the front and start the relay
again. There are two ways you could end this: The first team to fill their bucket to a certain line
wins, have them play the sponge pass for 3 minutes and after the 3 minutes whichever team has more
water wins (If you do it this way, you will need a ruler or stick so that you will be able to tell which
team has the most water.)

Event #2
Water Balloon Launch: You will need a water balloon launcher (I found mine on eBay). You will need
2 adults to hold each side of the launcher. Have the first person from one of the teams choose a
water balloon and place it in the launcher. Each person in each team will have a turn to launch a
balloon or two. The team with the farthest balloon is the winner. For this even I also made little flags
to mark where each balloon landed. I got skewers and attached rectangle pieces of cardstock. I
had each team color. We had 2-3 adults out in the field marking where they landed.

Event #3
Event
Water Bomb Pass Game: This game is like hot potato. We’ll play a few rounds and the team that
had the water balloon pop on them the least amount of times, is the winner! (In order to play this game
you will need to buy the ‘Water Bomb’ at a store. Our Primary President had one. It’s a plastic ball
that you place a water balloon in. After a certain amount of time the water balloon will burst inside of
the plastic ball.)
-Instead of this game you could always play water balloon toss. Have each team get a partner. Have
them stand so far apart (one group of kids on one side and the others on the other side, facing
each other.) Hand one side (one group) a water balloon. They will have to toss the water balloon to
their partner without dropping it or popping it. The last pair to still have their balloon wins.

Event #4
Water Kickball: This will be the final event. It is just like normal kickball, but each base will have a
pool or bucket of water and when they run home they will slide down a slip and slide. Whichever team
has the most points will be the winners!

Closing Ceremony (12:15-

(12:15-12:45 PM)
We served pizza and root beer and lemonade. After all those games the kids were starving. While
the children are eating pizza, tally up the scores and decide which team will get what awards

Awarding the Medals: (12:45-

(12:45-12:55 PM)
We will award each team a medal that they have earned during the Olympics
-For our awards we found some round candy (we have a candy called ‘Cup Of Gold’ that’s what we
used.) You could use Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups: individually wrapped, Cookies, etc.
Once you have your candies you will need some gold cellophane. Cut the cellophane into squares
(big enough to wrap the candy). Wrap each candy in the Gold cellophane. Then you will need some
ribbon. I found some red, white, & blue ribbon to use for our medals. Cut each ribbon so that it’s long
enough to go over the children’s heads. Then attach it to the candy. And there you go.....a medal.

Close with a prayer

Good Sportsmanship Skit
We had some of the Primary Teachers perform a skit for the children before our Olympics.

You will need:

A Narrator
Umpires (2)
1st Baseman
2nd Baseman
3rd Baseman
Coaches (one for each team)
Saints teammates (runners on bases)
Bat
Ball
Bases
If possible, have each team wear a different color shirt so the children know who is who.

Narrator: The game was tied 0-0 between the Saints and the Angels. The Saints were batting
and the bases were loaded. Crystal the Crusher was up to bat. She had never hit a home run
before. The pitcher threw the ball and whack!! It was a HOME RUN!! Crystal was so happy as
she ran to first base, but as she ran round first base she realized she didn’t touch the base.
She turned around to go back, but as she turned around she twisted her leg and fell to the
ground. She tried to get up and run again but she couldn’t. The umpire and the Saints’ coach
approaches first base.
Umpire: No one on your team can help her or it is considered an automatic Out. The only
thing we can do if she can’t make it to homeplate is to have someone replace her, but it will
not be a home run, it will be ruled a 2 run single and the player will take her place at first
base.
Narrator: The coach with nothing else to do turns to her team to choose a player to replace
Crystal.
1st Baseman(The Angels): Could we carry her around the bases to homeplate?
Narrator: The umpires had never had this happen before, they talked with one another and
made a decision.
Umpire: Sure, why not?
Narrator: So the Angels picked up Crystal and helped her touch the rest of the bases and
carried her across homeplate. The Saints went on to win 4-2. It would have been easy for the
Angels not to say anything and have Crystal the Crusher be replaced and not get a home run.
They probably would have won if they did that, but they chose to do the right thing.
Team Lists
Before the activity look at your list of Primary Children and split them up into teams. Even though everyone will
not be there, it makes it a lot easier the day of the activity. I tried to split it up evenly by age. I had the same
amount of Sunbeams on each team, same amount of CTR 4, etc. etc.
If someone isn’t there you will just have to move a few children around instead of trying to find a team for all of
the primary children.

sheets. You will need an adult to be in charge of each
game. Give the person the score sheet that he/she is in charge of. I would
also give them a clipboard and pen.

Water Kickball

Just like Kickball. You want to make it home without being tagged. The
team with the most runs wins. If you kick the ball and someone catches it
before it bounces it’s an out. If you are tagged with the ball you are out.
NO throwing the ball at someone! If all of the members on the team have
had a chance to bat/kick then the other team automatically gets to
switch to batting, and it begins a new inning.

The two teams sit in a circle (it would be best to have them
sit red, blue, red, blue). When I say go and hand a person
the water bomb, they will begin passing it around. When will
it explode, no one knows. But you don’t want to be the one
holding it when it does. The team with the least amount of
blowups wins.
