94GAMES AND ACTIVITIES

This simple game is great for practising colours – and
other vocabulary areas too.

What to do

•Divide the group into two teams, sitting in a line at opposite ends
of the room.
•Lay the sheets of A4 coloured paper out on the floor.
•One by one, a child from each team comes forward and must
throw a beanbag on to a sheet and correctly name the TL colour.
•A point is given for each correct answer.
•If the beanbag lands in between two sheets, a player from the
opposing team may give the name of a colour in English which
their opponent has to say in TL.
•Children are not allowed to aim for the same colour as the child
whose turn immediately preceded theirs!

Variations

•This game can also be used to practise animals, foods, or just about any
vocabulary area for which you have a set of A4 picture cards (simple draw-
ings are fine or print images from a computer).
•Or you could print off a set of flags of the different countries where the TL is
spoken and children have to name the country on whose flag their beanbag
lands.

•For older children practising numbers, write numbers between 1 and 100 or
even 1,000 on paper plates. Turn over all the plates and only reveal the
number when the player has thrown their beanbag on to it.
•For older children who have mastered their numbers, write simple maths
problems on the plates – they must give the answer in TL.
