AREA OF TRIANGLE
When using the formula to find the area of triangle,we have to take note of the following: (x1,y1) is repeated at the end Area of ½[(sum of product xy )-(sum of product xy ) ]
If the coordinates of vertices are arranged in the anticlockwise order, then the answer of the area is positive. If the coordinates of vertices are arranged in the clockwise order, then the answer of the area is negative.
If the area of PQR=0,then the points P,Q and R are collinear.
Calculate the area of ABC with the vertices A(1,3),B(5,1),and C(6,7) The vertices are in the anticlockwise order Area of ABC =½[1+35+18-(15+6+7)] ½(54-28) =13 units²
Find the values of p if the points A(2,1),B(6,p) and C(3p,9/2) are collinear. Area of ABC=0 1/2(2p+27+3p)-(6+3p²+9)=0 5p-3p²+12=0 3p²-5p-12=0 (3p+4)(p-3)=0 P=-1 1/3or 3
1) A(2,4),B(-4,0),C(3,8) 2) A(-4,0),B(5,1),C(6,3) 3) A(2,6),B(6,1),C(-1,-7) 4) A(2,3),B(6,9),C(0,-7)
