By Dan L. White Subscribe to this free e-newsletter. The liberals have done it now. They’ve banned Happy Meals. The Board of Supervisors in Santa Clara County, California has made it illegal for restaurants in unincorporated areas of their county to give away toys with meals that exceed the county’s set levels of fat, salt and sugar. That includes Happy Meals. Santa Clara County is at the south end of San Francisco Bay. The county seat is San Jose, made famous in the song Do You Know the Way to San Jose? Fortunately, even though I liked the song, I never actually learned the way to San Jose. This county was one of the first in the nation to require restaurants to post nutritional information on food they sell. Now that is widely done nationwide. Since Santa Clara criminalized Happy Meals, San Francisco introduced a similar law for consideration and officials in the Los Angeles area and Chicago and New York City are interested in axing Happy Meals. Consumer groups claim that selling Happy Meals is a deceptive practice and violates current fair trade laws in California, Texas, New Jersey and Massachusetts and should be banned in those states. Truly it’s a sad day for Happy Meals. Liberals do not believe that parents should be able to choose whether or not to buy a Happy Meal for their children. Liberals believe they should control what a parent does with a child. Liberals do not believe in individual character. They believe in group controls. This process begins with liberal childrearing. Actually, I can’t really call what they do childrearing, because they never do anything to the rears of their
children. Liberals practice Run-‘em-down child raising. You can see it in stores all the time. Child takes off. Parent tells child to stop. Child does not stop. Parent yells at child to stop. Child does not stop. Parent physically runs down child and drags it along. That’s Run-‘em-down child raising. Not rearing, just raising. The child is not taught obedience or individual character. The child goes as far as he can until he runs into some external control, like his parent physically grabbing him. The child does not learn individual restraint. He goes as far as he can until he runs into some obstacle. This philosophy continues in the liberal schools, where loosely controlled chaos is the norm. Again, children don’t learn individual character and self control, which ultimately can only come from God, so they run into a maze of external controls. Children of liberal love throw tantrums and fight and hit. When they get into school, they have that same lack of restraint, so the schools have become centers of violence. What do the schools do about that? They have weapons checks to catch knives and guns, and security officers patrolling the halls. They also give their students sessions on how to handle bullying. Notice that they don’t claim to stop the bullying. They just have sessions to tell the students, “Now here’s what you say when somebody beats you up. Tell him to have a time out.” No individual character, just external controls. The young people of America are the biggest victims of sexually transmitted diseases, the plague of promiscuity, the horrors of whoredom. Some of these diseases are incurable. Once a young person catches one of these diseases of Egypt, his life is forever altered and markedly shortened. The liberals do not expect that young people can ever have the character to restrain themselves in their burgeoning sexual urges. Therefore they put in an external control, giving kids condoms in the schools and offering abortions, without telling parents. Parents so often get in the way of what the liberals want to do, don’t they? Ultimately this policy prevails in society. People are not expected to have individual character, and once God is removed from the society, they don’t. Therefore, in such a destructive, disintegrating society, liberals put in more and more external controls. They say they have to, to protect the people. Ultimately this affects almost all areas of people’s lives, whether they can own a gun, take care of their own health, or buy their kids a Happy Meal.
That’s quite a cycle, isn’t it? The liberals do not teach individual character and God based morality. Sure enough, then people don’t have individual character, so the socialists put in external controls, that serve to continually give the liberal socialists more and more power. And it all starts with Run-‘em-down child raising. Many Christians also practice Run-‘em-down child raising. They don’t have enough contact with the mind of God and they think God’s a liberal socialist. Here is a good example of what God wants from His children. Gen 12 (1) Now Yahweh said to Abram, "Get out of your country, and from your relatives, and from your father's house, to the land that I will show you. (2) I will make of you a great nation. I will bless you and make your name great. You will be a blessing. (3) I will bless those who bless you, and I will curse him who curses you. In you will all of the families of the earth be blessed." (4) So Abram went, as Yahweh had spoken to him. Lot went with him. Abram was seventy-five years old when he departed out of Haran. What happened there? Yahweh told Abram to leave his home and his family and go to the Promised Land. Make no mistake about it, that was a big move. If you were told right now to leave your home and your family and go to a place you had never been, what would you do? I know what you would do. What did Abram do? “So Abram went.” And he was seventy-five years old, when he got up and went. What was Abram’s reaction to this serious command of God? Abraham didn’t refuse. Abraham didn’t argue. Abraham didn’t wait. He just obeyed. He went. Gen 17
(1) When Abram was ninety-nine years old, Yahweh appeared to Abram, and said to him, "I am God Almighty. Walk before me, and be blameless. (2) I will make my covenant between me and you, and will multiply you exceedingly." (3) Abram fell on his face. God talked with him, saying, (4) "As for me, behold, my covenant is with you. You will be the father of a multitude of nations. (5) Neither will your name any more be called Abram, but your name will be Abraham; for I have made you the father of a multitude of nations. (6) I will make you exceedingly fruitful, and I will make nations of you. Kings will come out of you. (7) I will establish my covenant between me and you and your seed after you throughout their generations for an everlasting covenant, to be a God to you and to your seed after you. (8) I will give to you, and to your seed after you, the land where you are traveling, all the land of Canaan, for an everlasting possession. I will be their God." (9) God said to Abraham, "As for you, you will keep my covenant, you and your seed after you throughout their generations. (10) This is my covenant, which you shall keep, between me and you and your seed after you. Every male among you shall be circumcised. (11) You shall be circumcised in the flesh of your foreskin. It will be a token of the covenant between me and you. What happened here? Yahweh made a covenant with Abram, changed his name to Abraham, and told him to circumcise himself and all the males in his household. Somehow it doesn’t seem so painful to think of an eight day old baby being circumcised, but the thought of a full grown man being cut on without Novocaine is kind of numbing, particularly to a full grown man. Abraham was ninety-nine years old. That skin had been with him a long time. You might say he had grown attached to it. But, yes, he cut it off. Gen 17:22-27 (22) When he finished talking with him, God went up from Abraham. (23) Abraham took Ishmael his son, all who were born in his house, and all who were bought with his money; every male among the men of Abraham's house, and circumcised the flesh of their foreskin in the same day, as God had said to him. (24) Abraham was ninety-nine years old, when he was circumcised in the flesh of his foreskin. (25) Ishmael, his son, was thirteen years old when he was circumcised in the flesh of his foreskin.
(26) In the same day both Abraham and Ishmael, his son, were circumcised. (27) All the men of his house, those born in the house, and those bought with money of a foreigner, were circumcised with him. When Abraham was told to operate on himself, his son and all his household, what did he do? Abraham didn’t refuse. Abraham didn’t argue. Abraham didn’t wait. They were circumcised the same day. Gen 22 (1) It happened after these things, that God tested Abraham, and said to him, "Abraham!" He said, "Here I am." (2) He said, "Now take your son, your only son, whom you love, even Isaac, and go into the land of Moriah. Offer him there for a burnt offering on one of the mountains which I will tell you of." There is no overstating the gravity of this command. Isaac was the son that Abraham had waited a hundred years for. He was the baby of the family. Actually, he was the family, the only son by Sarah, Abraham’s wife. Isaac was not just a little boy here. He was a young man, and had been with his family quite long enough for them to know him well, get used to him, and love him. I have four daughters and a son. My feelings for my daughters are extreme, yet there is a special place in my life for my son. He is my only son, kind of sounds like me, and we can talk in a way that I cannot do with my daughters. For example, I have no interest whatsoever in baby showers. He shares that non-interest. When Yahweh told Abraham to sacrifice his only son, there is no overstating the gravity of that command. There is nothing I can say and no words that I can write to show what Abraham felt. God told him to give up his only son. And what happened? Gen 22 (3) Abraham rose early in the morning, and saddled his donkey, and took two of his young men with him, and Isaac his son. He split the wood for the burnt offering, and rose up, and went to the place of which God had told him.
That was a long walk, about sixty miles from Beersheba to Mount Moriah, or Jerusalem. As soon as Abraham could get ready for the trip, he left. He got things ready the day of the command and the next morning he and Isaac rose early and left. You know how he was, don’t you? When Abraham was given the most demanding command possible for a human to receive – He didn’t refuse. He didn’t argue. He didn’t wait. In no way did Abraham want to do those three things, when he faced those three tests. He did not want to leave his home and family, he did not want to see his skin sliced off, and he did not want to lose his only son. But in all those cases, Abraham didn’t refuse, argue, or wait. That is the attitude of obedience that God wants from His children. That is the attitude of obedience that He wants from your children. Abraham had individual character. He could deny and restrain himself. Mat 16 Modern King James (24) Then Jesus said to His disciples, If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow Me. Yahweh did not have to practice Run-‘em-down child raising with Abraham. Do you? You may want to give your child the Abraham test. Tell your child to come to you. Don’t elaborate. Don’t pontificate. Don’t explain that you are giving a test to see how wonderfully obedient he is. Just tell him to come and see what happens. Does he refuse? Does he argue? Does he wait? Certainly today, most children will do one or all three of those. Even most
Christians have become closet liberals and practice Run-‘em-down child raising, without teaching individual character. So the socialists keep putting on more and more controls. People are thought not to possess the individual character to be able to buy their own food. Happy Meals are banned.
