The Phantom of the Opera

In the novel 'The Phantom of the Opera', the character that I like is Christine Daae.
She was hardworking, loyal, unselfish and compassionate.

Christine Daae was poor. Mter the death of her father, she decided to go
to Paris to be an opera singer. Christine Daae worked hard to become a prima
donna at the Opera House by secretly receiving voice lessons under the guidance
of Erik, the phantom. During her performance, Christine attracted the attention of
Raoul Vicomte and they both fell in love. Christine Daae was loyal to Raoul
Vicomte. She was willing to sacrifice her love and to marry Erik who threatened to
kill Raoul in his secret chamber.

Christine Daae also had compassion for Erik. She sympathised with Erik for
having an ugly look that caused the society to reject him. She kissed him and
agreed to marry him so that Erik, the phantom will let Raoul Vicomte and the
Persian be set free.

The Phantom of the Opera

In the novel 'The Phantom of the Opera', I have learnt to care about the feelings of others
and the welfare of the poor, the disabled and the less fortunate. I must not judge a person by their
looks or a book by its cover. I must have compassion for others.

Erik was constantly faced with revulsion as the people rejected him for his ugly, corpse-
like look. As such, he nursed bitter feelings towards them and was full of hatred and anger. He
became very rebellious and took revenge on those who refused to give in to his demands.

Erik would not have to suffer rejection after rejection if people had not despised and
looked down upon him. He would not have turned into a hardened, cruel person. Instead, if
people had shown compassion for him, he would have been able to use his talents and genius for
the good of the society.
