Vortex optics met the high level of interest in long range shooting and
hunting head on by launching its Long Range Ballistics Calculator
(LRBC) program and Trajectory Matched Turret (TMT) custom turret
service on its Web site.
Anyone can use the LRBC program to generate custom drop charts for
specific rifles and preferred loads – and it’s free. Use the charts as
references while hunting, to make ballistic comparisons, etc. The data is
yours. Data entered is stored and can be accessed and adjusted in each
users individual account.
Custom, laser-cut TMT turrets are built using data entered into the
LRBC program. Vortex TMT turrets give hunters and shooters the ability
to quickly and accurately dial elevation when presented with a long range
shot. Range the target, turn the turret to the corresponding marked
yardage and hold dead on – it’s that simple. Of course, there is the
human element involved. That’s where practice, knowing your
equipment and learning to judge variables like wind velocity come in.
The new web services are a natural fit for Vortex – After all, you can’t hit

moved from the Sports tier to the more broadly distributed Digital
Preferred tier throughout Comcast’s cable systems in southern Colorado.
Starting August 24th, more Comcast customers in Colorado Springs,
Pueblo and Trinidad will have access to Outdoor Channel’s compelling
line-up of hunting, fishing, shooting and adventure programming on
channel 127.
The transition from the Sports tier to the Digital Preferred tier allows
additional subscribers in this region to catch the most thrilling outdoor
line-up in the history of the network. Additionally, the network is also
available to Comcast customers in southern Colorado on the HD tier.
Outdoor Channel is the only full-time network in the outdoor genre to
produce 100 percent of its programming in native high definition (HD).

The Women of USPSA, in cooperation with the Steel Challenge Shooting
Association (SCSA), launched a Steel Challenge poll earlier this month
asking fans of the shooting sports to predict this year’s Steel Challenge

Arizona’s Hualapai Indian Reservation last fall. Watch this history-
making hunt next week on Christensen Outdoors TV, beginning Tuesday,

The elk scored an astonishing 478 5/8 points, good for the #3 SCI world-

Early in the hunt, Koster spotted a magnificent 7×7 bull, estimated as a
400-class animal, during a spot-and-stalk with a guide from Double D
Outfitters.
“That bull had a ‘six pack’ for a front and everything else we
were looking for. I wanted that bull,” said Koster in an article
he wrote about the hunt titled “478 Arizona Monster” for
Christensen’s Hunting Illustrated.
Hoping to get a shot at the 7×7, the pair settled into the same spot the
next morning. Instead of that trophy, however, a different bull walked on
the scene, toting a massive split-beam rack in full velvet.
“For some reason, I delayed (when I first saw him). Maybe it
was that strange split that had me mesmerized…or that he
was the biggest bull I’ve ever seen…but I almost blew the
chance of a lifetime,” Koster wrote.
Koster got his bull of a lifetime and, thanks to the videographer, will
always be able to back up his story.
“I would strongly recommend the Hualapai Indian
Reservation for anyone interested in beautiful elk county,
good people and some of the largest bull elk in North
America,” Koster said in the article.

Pennsylvania --(Ammoland.com)- Waterfowl hunters – whether
hunting from shore or from a boat – are urged to keep safety first and
foremost in mind, said Keith Snyder, Pennsylvania Game Commission
Hunter-Trapper Education Division chief.
“Basic firearm and hunting safety are critical,” Snyder said.
“Treat every firearm as if it is loaded and make sure that the
muzzle is always pointed in a safe direction. Never place your
finger on the trigger until you are ready to fire. Be aware of
any companions’ locations at all times and maintain a safe
zone-of-fire. Waterfowl action can be exciting, but never
swing your barrel toward another hunter.
“Make sure firearms are unloaded prior to reaching your
hunting location and immediately after you are done hunting.
Also, if you are using a boat, remember that state law requires
that all firearms be unloaded in any boat propelled by motor
or sail, and should be cased with actions open.”
Snyder also noted that, in Pennsylvania, all those using a boat are
required to have a properly-fitted personal flotation device (PFD) readily
accessible. For more information on boating laws and regulations, as

approved boater’s safety course.
Additionally, according to the U.S. Coast Guard, every year several
hunters die from drowning and hypothermia.
“When you have a crew of hunters, with decoys and
equipment, and dogs, a boat can easily become unbalanced,
especially if the wind comes up,” Snyder said, “Not only is it
unsafe to overload a boat, exceeding the limits posted on the
capacity plate is also illegal.
“Sudden immersion into cold water is one of the leading
causes of boating fatalities in the Commonwealth. It places a
severe strain on bodily systems that can lead to hypothermia
or, worse, cardiac arrest. Survivors of cold-water accidents
have reported their breath driven from them on contact with
the water.”
Anyone falling into cold water should immediately ensure that their and
any companions’ PFDs are intact, and work to find a way to exit the
water or right the watercraft. Cover your mouth and nose – if possible –
to prevent inhaling water.
If you can’t get out of the water immediately and the shore is too far,
raise your knees and wrap your arms across your chest to help reduce
heat loss through the body’s core. Don’t leave your watercraft and
attempt to swim to shore. It’s probably further than you think. Experts
recommend you stay with your boat until help arrives. If possible, try to
climb back into your boat or on top of it.
“Most important,” Snyder suggests, “get into the routine of
making the life jacket part of your hunting equipment, and
wear it.”

National Match held at Camp Perry, Ohio, World Champion Shooter,
Carl Bernosky won High Civilian in the High Power Rifle Championship
category.
The match, shot over a course of four days tests competitors shooting
abilities in the standing, prone or sitting position. The distances for the
course of fire are 200 yards standing position, 200 yards of rapid fire
sitting, 300 yards of rapid fire in the prone position and 600 yards of
slow fire shot prone for a possible grand score of 2400. Carl topped last
year’s score of 2386-125x by shooting a 2395-140x despite dealing with
Lake Erie’s fluctuating weather and the constant threat of showers.
