Greek words for light and writing. This is when the process of photography first came public. But, photography, well the thought or idea of it, came way before 1839. Two processes combine to make photography, the first process is optical and the second is a chemical process. Even though the two processes were discovered way before the 1830s, photography still had not been invented. The first successful picture was created in June/July of 1827 by Joseoh Nicephore Niepce using material that hardened on exposure to light. It took eight hours for the exposure. The next major thing to come about in photography was the Daguerreotype, invented by Louis Daguerre. The Daguerreotype was the first successful photographic process it was a positive image on a metal support. You could not remake the photos that the daguerreotype created so they were unique, and the images were reversed like a mirror. The Daguerreotype process was also very expensive so one picture was all that was taken. The first successful photograph we know of was taken using the daguerreotype process in August 1835, window at Lacock Abbey. The next photographic process was the Calotype, created by William Henry Fox Talbot, this process
