charged with assault Hands of Hope" Christmas food drive
It's the 5th Annual Hands of Hope
A Merritt RCMP officer has been
charged with assault in relation to an in-
cident earlier this year.
The accusations against Sgt. Norm
Flemming stem from an incident that
happened at the RCMP detachment in
Merritt on May 15.
A statement from the Crown said the
charges were approved by a Crown
counsel in a different area of BC who
doesn't have any connections with the of-
ficer. No further details on the alleged
crime were available. Flemming, who
has acted as a media relations officer, is
due in court Dec. 5 in Merritt. www.cbc.ca
New trails for Kane
Valley x-c ski area
Thanks to local TNRD Regional Direc-
tors Herb Graham & Randy Murray,
Nicola Nordic Ski Club has been able to
purchase a new snowmobile and
groomer from Nicola Motor Sports,
which will enable them to groom more
remote trails and operate for another sea-
son with fewer breakdowns!
Currently, the ski club manages over
50 kms of wilderness. There is one desig-
nated dog run at Matthews Loop, with
another dog-friendly run to open from P5
along to Aspen on a one-year trial.
Season passes/memberships are
available at Breathe Bikes at their new lo-
cation on Quilchena Ave., or membership
forms can be downloaded from
www.nicolanordic.ca. Rates are expected
to go up at their AGM (Tues. Nov. 21,
NVIT, 7pm), but until then, join at last
years prices: $80 family, $40 individual
and $7 for day use. So, come out and

Hwy 5A bridge
maintenance
Highway 5A will be closed again to-
morrow, November 16 between 7am &
5pm to all traffic in both directions. The
closure will be 25km north of town, be-
cause of maintenance on the Quilchena
bridge. Travellers looking to access areas
on either side of the bridge will still be
able to do so, but drivers will not be able
to pass over the bridge. The detour to
Kamloops is available via Hwy 5.

The TNRD is seeking feedback on its at the Shulus band hall. Tables available
draft Regional Solid Waste Management for vendors $10. FMI Charlotte 378-5006,

launched to gather public opinion, and it,
as well as a copy of the draft plan, is available online at tnrd.ca or PlaceSpeak. The
survey closes Feb. 9, 2018, and there are prize incentives to encourage the feedback.
The plan is for the handling of garbage & recycling for the next 10 years, and is the
result of a collaboration between regional district and municipal staff, consultants,
elected officials, industry stakeholders, and members of the public. The goal is to re-
duce the amount of waste landfilled in the TNRD by 20%.
