Carbohydrate Digestion

In Mouth: Parotid gland secretes salivary amylase

(Ptyalin)
Hydrolyzes starch:

Ptyalin
Starches Maltose + Glucose Polymer
(5%) (3-9)

In Stomach:

Ptyalin
Starches Maltose + Glucose Polymer
(30%-40%) (3-9)

In Small Intestine:

Pancreatic juice contains Pancreatic α-amylase.

Within 15-30 minutes after the empties of the stomach, all the starches will have been
digested.

Pancreatic α-amylase
Starches + Dextrins Maltose + Glucose polymer (small)

Membrane Digestion:

Villi of the small intestine secretes carbohydrate splitting enzymes.

Sucrase
Sucrose Glucose + Fructose
Lactase
Lactose Glucose + Galactose
Trehalase
Trehalose Glucose

Maltase (25%), α-Dextrinase (50%), Sucrase (25%)

Maltose Glucose + Glucose

Maltase (25%), α-Dextrinase (95%), Sucrase (25%)

Maltotriose Glucose + Glucose

Maltase (25%), α-Dextrinase(95%)

α-Dextrin Glucose + Glucose
