To: Parents of New POCOLOCO Students Fr: Maria Nilsson-Whitaker, Owner/Instructor Re: Class Info and Welcome Date: Sep

. 1, 2010

Estimadas Familias/Dear Families,

Thank you for allowing me to be your child’s Spanish teacher this semester! I’m excited to soon get to see the eager little caritas (=faces), new and familiar, when we start class on Wednesday, Sep. 15th, at 1:30 pm. Rest assured that your child will receive an action-packed language session every week; filled with new Spanish vocabulary, music and song, games, story-telling, culture, and follow-up activities such as arts & crafts. You will be informed weekly about current topics and how you can best help your child remember and practice the material between classes. This way you might brush up on your own Spanish skills and/or even be inclined to take one of POCOLOCO’s classes for adults! By now you should have received POCOLOCO’s registration form, as it has been e-mailed to the address you have given me. Please fill out the form as soon as you can and return it via regular mail, along with the September tuition check, to the address on top of the registration form. I will not be able to hold your child’s space until I receive the form and the first payment. Since we’re starting mid-September, your first payment will be slightly different than that of the upcoming months during which we indeed will meet four (4) Wednesday afternoons (1:30-3:00pm.) If you prefer to pay the semester balance in full at this time, rather than paying monthly, please let me know and I shall e-mail you an invoice. The September tuition comes out to $66.88 which reflects a/the pro-rated September tuition b/obligatory NM sales tax and c/a once-per-semester-fee of $10 for necessary arts & crafts material we will be using during follow-up activities and hands-on exercises. Starting October 1, your monthly tuition will be a constant $74.90 which reflects four (4) monthly 1.5hour classes and the NM sales tax. I thank you in advance for trying to pay your monthly tuition in a timely fashion – GRACIAS. Sibling discount is 10% off the second child’s tuition and any new referral you may send our way will result in a discount on the following month’s tuition. Please remind me whom you were kind enough to refer to POCOLOCO and I will happily reward you with the discount. The class will be held in a classroom that POCOLOCO is renting from Sandia Presbyterian Church. The church is the big structure on the south side of Paseo del Norte, just east of Eubank. After parking in either the north or the south parking lot, please bring your child to the southern entrance (where the Upward Basketball Program conducts Saturday games in the gym) and look for me or my assistant. We shall be wearing sombreros, thus we’ll be hard to miss.  Please try to have your child at the classroom location every Wednesday on time (at 1:30 pm) since he/she otherwise would miss the welcoming songs and introductory activities. The class will be over at 3:00 and I will not be able to stay and watch your child after this time as I teach another class later in the afternoon elsewhere. Finally, please know that you are always invited to stay for class! However, I respectfully ask you not to bring any other siblings who are not signed up for the class and, perhaps most importantly, to make sure your participating child welcomes you to stay. All children are different and some like to experience a class completely on their own. Towards the end of the semester, you will be formally invited (via your child’s hand-made tarjeta written in Spanish) to an end-of-the-semester-celebration during which your child will get a chance to show off some of his/her new skills. Should you have any questions or concerns that I may not have addressed in this letter, please feel free to contact me via phone or e-mail. I look forward to meeting your child in class on the 15th!

Sinceramente, Maria
