Introduction
 Fast Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG) are the products that are
sold quickly at relatively low cost.
 Examples of FMCG include a wide range of consumer products
such as toiletries, soap, cosmetics, shaving products and
detergents, as well as other non-durables such as glassware, light
bulbs, batteries, paper products and plastic goods.
 FMCG may also include pharmaceuticals, consumer electronics,
packaged food products and drinks, although these are often
categorized separately.
 Some of the world famous companies are Procter & Gamble,
Heinz, Cadbury’s, Reckitt Benckiser , Nestle, Unilever, Coca Cola,
Colgate-Palmolive.
FMCG Sector in India
 The Indian FMCG sector is the fourth largest sector in the
economy with a total market size in excess of US$ 13.1 billion.
 Presence of strong MNCs, characterized by a well established
distribution network, intense competition and low operational cost.
 It has been estimated that FMCG sector will rise from around Rs
56,500 crores in 2005 to Rs 92,100 crores in 2010.
 Availability of key raw materials, cheaper labor costs and presence
across the entire value chain gives India a competitive advantage.
 Top ten players – HUL, ITC, Nestle India, GCMMF (Amul),
Dabur, Asian Paints, Cadbury’s India, Britannia Industries, Procter
& Gamble, Marico Industries.
1) Hindustan Unilever Ltd (HUL)

 India’s largest consumer products company.


 Annual turnover of over Rs 13,000 crores.
 Formed in 1956
 Employee strength of over 15,000 employees and contributes for indirect
employment of over 52,000 people.
 Presence in over 20 consumer categories such as Soaps, Tea, Detergents and
Shampoos.
