Please join Mother Mary Assumpta Long, O.P. - Prioress General of the Dominican Sisters of Mary, Mother of the Eucharist - for the 5th Annual “A Pledge of Future Glory” Golf Tournament, Gala Dinner and Auction at the Westwood Country Club in Vienna, Virginia. The Dominican Sisters of Mary is a Roman Catholic community of women religious founded in 1997 shortly after Pope John Paul II’s call for a renewed participation of religious in the New Evangelization. From the beginning, the growth of the community has been astounding as young women have responded from all over the United States and abroad. Starting with only 4 Sisters, there are now nearly 100, and they come from 30 states and Canada. The average age of women entering is 21 years old and the average age of the community as a whole is 26 years old. Their primary apostolate is teaching. The Sisters administer and staff their two Spiritus Sanctus Academies in Ann Arbor, Michigan, and they teach in schools in Arizona, Florida, Texas and South Carolina. In addition, the Sisters will assume the leadership of the Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary School in Sacramento, CA this fall. They also engage in a variety of other activities in support of their vocational and educational mission (including the filming this June of the sixth season of their “Truth in the Heart” catechetical series airing on EWTN). The Sisters continue to incur substantial financial costs relating to the formation and education of the many young women pledging themselves to the Universal Church. This financial challenge is further exacerbated by the need to begin expanding outside of Michigan, as the recently completed Motherhouse was filled to capacity with the entrance of the Postulants last August, and another large group is expected to enter in the summer of 2010.
