Fusing & Slumping Glass
This class is an introduction to the wonderful world of kiln-formed glass. Layers of compatible glass are fused together to create artistic objects including jewelry, tiles and picture frames. Glass can also be slumped into or over molds to create barrettes, small plates, and votive candleholders. Glass cutting, compatibility testing, use of “frits” (crushed glass) and metal inclusions are among the techniques presented in addition to information on the use of kilns and firing processes. More advanced projects will be available to continuing students. A supply list will be given out at the first class meeting.

Pinhole Camera Play Day
The camera obscura is a very old idea, first built around 1000AD in what is now Iraq. A variation on the concept is the pinhole camera. Pinhole cameras can easily be made of almost anything. All it needs is a lightproof box. In this workshop we will to make your own pinhole camera and print photos. Due to the tiny hole used in these cameras, one advantage is that they have is an enormous depth of field. The day will consist of 1.5 hours to make the cameras then a ½ hour break and 3 hours of printing. Class will include 25 sheets of photo paper and photo chemicals. Please bring a light proof box. Quaker Oats Cans are the simplest.

Black & White Photo
In this class students will become proficient in both developing film and printing silver gelatin images. Once students have gained both knowledge and experience in the developing and printing process, they can rent darkroom time at Studio One and work on their own and at your own speed. Learn the art of traditional photography and see how the masters did it. This is the foundation for enhancing how one sees an image, whether it is in digital or traditional.
