Gender Differences Women In the environment of a hospice care organization. the effects of these factors on managers. if an individual feels comfortable in the environment of Hospice services. and how they can improve their communication. their supervisors. differences in culture between the patients and the caregivers. and the possible inability of the caregivers to communicate clearly with the people they are tending to. patients. are the most likely to have strong communication skills when they interact with patients. though. These circumstances can change how an organization completes its tasks. and the patients' family members experience their interactions. could be challenged by aspects of their care like gender differences. and their own co-workers. they are more likely to . patients. they talk more. co-workers. and how the employees. In order to discover how this kind of organization is particularly challenged with their communication. The staff of Legacy Hospice has illustrated that women employees. This is likely because women tend to use more nonverbal communication than men do. rather than male employees. one of the most important aspects of taking care of the patients is good communication. this paper will examine the effects of cultural and gender differences on the communication used within the Legacy Hospice. Men and women. are likely to use different approaches and styles of communication while they go about their job. Every health care setting. the Hospice included. the patients' families.
work to build a partnership, and they are more likely to reveal their own personal information to the people they talk to (Axia, 2007). In this organization, the female workers are more likely to be comfortable taking care of opposite-sex patients, they make more emotional connections, and they spend time meeting the patient's needs that go beyond their physical needs, like offering emotional support to the patient or their family, showing patience, and asking questions of other people. Women in general have a better knowledge of health issues, for example, and so it is easier for women to ask the family questions about significant health factors. This kind of communication builds a stronger relationship between the patient and caregiver, and the caregiver is likely to have easier access to important information about the patient.
Men As we have already explored, the men who work in this organization are not as effective communicators with patients, their family members, and co-workers because they tend to keep some parts of their lives more private, are less comfortable with emotional expression, and are less likely to begin a conversation themselves. Also, unlike women employees, male employees are less comfortable taking care of women patients, and women patients might be less comfortable being taken care of by a male employee. A woman, for example, might be uncomfortable talking about some details of their condition with a male caregiver, and so there is a communication gap where information is lost. It is not unusual for a male caregiver to feel uncomfortable about taking care of a female patient, because they think that it is a moral problem or because they are simply uncomfortable with the demands of caring for a female patient. This can make it hard for the male caregiver, the female patient, and the patient's family to communicate with each other. In general the men working at this organization have

An organization like this one uses communication for factors like billing and payment. Some of these cultural issues might be that a patient does not speak English. but cultural differences might also play a role. that a male employee greatly contributes to the communication because they did not have to initiate the communication. and who is close to death. or antibiotics. or has strong and different religious beliefs (Axia. If an employee is providing care to a patient who has beliefs like these. treatment. Gender can have a major effect on communication in a hospice situation. 2007). Communication will not always be perfect. Improvements Right now this organization does not require specific improvements. Conclusion Working for a hospice organization is not just tending to the basic needs of a patient. or cultural . if they need them. and the certified nursing assistants can reach out to their supervisors if they have any problems or concerns. but right now the communication practices in this organization are sound.
