condition that needs to be addressed immediately. It appears there is a large tumor growing on your frontal and temporal lobes of your brain. The tumor is growing rapidly, and if it is not removed within two weeks, you will die. Unfortunately, due to the location of the tumor, after the surgery you will have no memory of yourself or anyone you were acquainted with. While you will retain all learned skills and information, you will not remember who you are or anything that has happened in your life. Your family and friends will seem to be strangers, and you won¶t be able to recall anything happening in your life prior to waking up from the surgery. Essentially, after the surgery, you will be a clean slate. We understand that this may come as quite a shock to someone who is still in 11th grade, but we do have a suggestion that may help you through this difficult situation. We recommend you write a letter to yourself to be read when you wake up from the surgery. In this letter, you should include anything about yourself you want your ³new´ self to know, including personality traits, past experiences, relationships with friends and family members, important memories, and anything else you want to ³transfer´ through the surgery. The letter should be between two and five pages, and should give your new self a good understanding of who you were without writing a complete autobiography. Some ideas to consider: Who should you trust? Who are your best friends? What things are most important to you? What has happened in your life that has affected who you are? What might you leave out of the letter? What kind of person are you? The date of the surgery is two weeks from now, on ______. The letter must be completed and turned in by then. We know this is a difficult situation, but please put a lot of thought into it.
Sincerely, Dr. Teacher
