Escalator 01

Aim To use function blocks to write a PLC program for the analogue
control of an escalator.

PREPARATION.
Theory/Drawing Study the assignment on page 2.
Print the drawing on page 3 and lay this on the practical model.

Additional teaching material See page 4.

Equipment required PLC with digital / analogue inputs and outputs.

Tools required PC or laptop with Siemens Simatic Manager software.

EXECUTION.
Order of work - Write a program that complies with the description on page 2.
- Load the program in the PLC.
- Test the program.

FINISHING.
Check Give the program a name of your own choice and save this on your
computer, CD-ROM, diskette or memory stick.

Escalator 01

Description An escalator is used in a shopping mall. The escalator is controlled


by a frequency regulator through a PLC. The escalator may only run
when somebody stands on it. A photocell is positioned at the
beginning of the escalator to detect this.

Operating:
S1: Photocell

Monitoring:
H1: escalator operating
Output channel 0: motor runs at 100% (10 Volt)

A) The escalator is started by S1.


This must continue to run for 10 sec.
The control of the motor is coupled to output channel 0.
The motor must run at 100% (10 Volt).
B) Indicator light H1 must be on when the escalator is operating

Additional teaching material S PEXT Timer

The characteristic of this timer is that de-energizing is delayed.


The timer begins to count again when it is activated and the Set input
is high once more.
