ADVENT OF HARIPAD

New Born Haripad

It is with great joy we would like to announce the wonderful event of birth of
first child at Sri Krishna Balaram Ksetra. Bhaktin Anita Mataji and child are both
doing fine. His Holiness Bhakti Raghava Maharaj has blessed the child with the
sweet name of "Haripad".

On the 21st day after the birth, Namasanskaran (Name Giving Ceremony)
ceremony was performed with devotees singing, dancing and honoring a good feast.
Haripad took 10 months to take birth but in good health and normal Delivery.
Sunderanand Prabhu and Anita Mataji request all Devotees to kindly shower their
blessings on this child.

PROTECTING DHARMA, THE BULL. NEW BULLS ARRIVE AT SSKBK.

This is a tale of a bull whose leg was cut and was severely injured in the very
sleeping village where our ashram is located.

Dharma the Bull

Bangaragudde, where Sahyadri Sri Krishna Balaram Ksetra is located, is a
very tiny village with less than 500 residents. As the tale of all villages goes, this one
is no exception. Youths are less and less engaged in agriculture, more and more
migrating to the cities. It is not surprising to see that agricultural lands lying barren.
Many elderly men are prone to drinking habits and chewing tobacco. Most of the
women go out for working in cashew factories and other such works in the town.

The most vulnerable to all these developments is mother cow and the father
bull. Kali in the form of "paper money" has made people merciless.

Dharma, as devotees in the farm started calling the bull, was found be devotees as
wandering in the village limping, severely wounded and bleeding. No one cared for it. They
preferred to just remain mere spectators. Devotees noticed him about a week after the
incident (in which somebody had cut the leg either for catching it for slaughter or for not
tolerating that he has coming to their land for eating the grains). Dharma was next moved
to the ashram and given treatment. Regular bandage is being applied to his injured leg and
fortunately the wound is healing although the damage cannot be cured completely.

PLANTATIONS: ROSE GARDEN, 600 BANANA SAPLINGS, 650

PINEAPPLE SAPLINGS AND 50 LEMON SAPLINGS

Its monsoon and time for planting tree saplings. With frantic search for
helping hands for this important service to Gaura Nitai, we contacted devotees who
have been contributing and they readily agreed this time too.

Clearing land for plantation

Dr.Vipul Prabhu and Sanjay Shetty Prabhu donated for 50 lemon saplings,
Dr.Smitha, Dr. Riyush donated for the banana saplings, H.G. Govinda Charan
Prabhu and Priyadarshan for the pineapple saplings. 25 Rose saplings were got and a
garden near our temple was made. This was possible with the help of H.G. Kanai
Thakur Prabhu.
Lemon saplings
All glories to these devotees for their help. All of the saplings have been
planted and by Krishna's mercy we may see the fruits by next year. We were
thinking of how to reciprocate with these devotees who have helped us in this
service and we came up with an idea to send them the products made in the farm.
We will soon be sending gift to all these devotees.

Devotees discussed that if we could somehow get around 50 Aleo vera

saplings, 5 Parijata Tree saplings, 3 Sampige tree saplings and few other flower
saplings for this rainy season, it would be great. This will help in making more
products in order to reciprocating with devotees. All glories to Srila Prabhupada.

NEEM OIL CAKE AND JEEVAMRTA AND WOOD ASH APPLIED TO THE
FIELDS

Three important organic manure were put to the fields like last year.
Traditionally used, Oil cakes are important manure. Neem oil cakes act as pesticide
as well as manure to the fields. Jeevamrta application continued for the fourth time
to the rice field since transplantation. Wood ash is another excellent manure as well
as pesticide used in the fields. Wood ash acts as the modern day Potash and much
more. In modern terms, it contains macro and micro nutrients.

PROTECTING SUGARCANE

Sugarcane crop, as mentioned by Chanakya pandit, is of the order of 3rd class

since protecting it requires endeavors unlike rice and other crops. True to this
statement, we saw heavy attack of monkeys and rats to the fields just like the last
year. Luckily till now we have not seen wild boar, fox etc. Few methods like tying
the sugarcanes together in a bunch, keeping good distance between the rows,
applying neem oil cakes, fencing the area with net and last but not the least,
constant vigilance over the crop is required. We are trying our best to protect it.
However, as the old saying goes - 25% of the cultivation in whatever case goes to the
nature. Our duty is to do what we can. Lord Krishna knows what is best and what
we need.

PANCHAGAVYA PRODUCTS PRODUCTION AT ITS PEAK

With Janmastami around the corner panchagavya production in the the farm
saw its peak. Devotees led by Sunderanand Prabhu amidst other activities as
protecting crops engaged in making Goark, Massage oil, Toothpowder and
Ghanavati. A new product was added to the list - Bathing Soda Soap.

VISIT TO FEW INTERESTING FARMERS

This month we got an opportunity to visit few interesting farmers in Shimoga
and Mysore. We learnt and noted down various things. We could learn making
soaps, coconut shell oil, few aspects of cow care and ofcourse about some special
varieties of trees. The farm in Mysore is owned by Mr. Chandrashekhar. In just 13
acres he is almost self-sufficient in that he grows his own rice, vegetables, fruits,
flowers. He maintains his cows and has wonderful varieties of trees and shrubs.
Nanda Maharaj Prabhu's farm at Shimoga was very interesting also. Nanada
Maharaj Prabhu's son has been living since 30 years or more and explained the way
he developed the farm and the interesting thing was his calculations about various
things like crop yield, growth rate, expenditures etc. We also visited Sri
Ramachandrapura math for the second time with some doubts on cow protection
and another farm on the way back.

We are very thankful to all who received us with great hospitality, shared
their experience with love and affection.

CYCLE ARRIVES AT SSKBK

With Anita Mataji pregnant we needed some form of moblility when she got
admitted in the govt hospital. The auto-rikshaw fare to and from the farm was Rs
100. Hence devotees contemplated purchasing a bycycle. Sriram Prabhu donated a
beautiful cycle. We thank Sriram Prabhu for his timely help.

GAURA NITAI SWEATER STITCHING AND LEARNING VARIOUS ARTS

AND CRAFTS

Bharat Pr Mother Stitching the sweter

Bharat Chandra Prabhu's mother visited the farm and stayed for around a
week. She taught matajis various arts and crafts. The week also saw learning to cook
various dishes. She also taught us how to stitch woolen sweater for Gaura Nitai and
cloth for covering the Bhoga plate. She also taught us making eggless cakes without
using an oven.

We all at Sri Krishna Balaram ksetra are very grateful, and pray the Sri Sri
Krishna Balaram shower their blessings on her.
VISITORS
With great enthusiasm many devotees visited SSKBK even during rains. We were
fortunate to get their association. We thank them very much for visiting the ashram
and request them to come again and again. Hope they had a wonderful experience.
Devotees who visited were - Gokuldham devotees, HG Sriram Das and Parasuram
Das, 5 devotees from Hyderabad, Bharat Chandra Pr's mother, Shyamsudar Prabhu
from Tirupathi, Devotees from Kerala, Shetty Prabhu from Dubai

VARNASRAMA READING
(Krishna Book Ch 80 - The Meeting of Lord Kåñëa with Sudämä Brähmaëa)

Lord Krishna Says - “My dear friend, I am Paramätmä, the Supersoul present in
everyone’s heart, and it is My direct order that human society follow the principles
of varëa and äçrama. As I have stated in the Bhagavad-gétä, human society should be
divided into four varëas, according to quality and action. Similarly, everyone should
divide his life into four parts. One should utilize the first part of life in becoming a
bona fide student, receiving adequate knowledge and keeping oneself in the vow of
brahmacarya, so that one may completely devote his life for the service of the
spiritual master without indulging in sense gratification. A brahmacäré is meant to
lead a life of austerities and penance. The householder is meant to live a regulated
life of sense gratification, but no one should remain a householder for the third stage
of life. In that stage, one has to return to the austerities and penances formerly
practiced in brahmacäré life and thus relieve himself of the attachment to household
life. After being relieved of his attachments to the materialistic way of life, one may
accept the order of sannyäsa”.

These instructions given by Lord Kåñëa while talking with His friend the
learned brähmaëa are very good for the guidance of human society. A system of
human civilization that does not promote varëa and äçrama is nothing but a polished
animal society. Indulgence in sex life by a man or woman living single is never
acceptable in human society. A man should strictly follow the principles of
brahmacäré life or, with the permission of the spiritual master, should get married.
Single life with illicit sex is animal life, for the animals have no such institution as
marriage.

Modern society does not aim at fulfilling the mission of human life, which is
to go back home, back to Godhead. To fulfill this mission, the system of varëa and
äçrama must be followed. When the system is followed rigidly and consciously, it
fulfills this mission, but when followed indirectly, without the guidance of superior
authority, it simply creates a disturbing condition in human society, and there is no
peace and prosperity.
