1. Also known as Levi.
2. Publican – Tax collector for Rome.
3. His introduction to Christ. (9:9-11)

5. He was a man of wealth who left all to follow Christ.

JESUS CHRIST, THE SON OF MAN

I. AUTHOR
A. Luke –
1. The beloved physician.
2. He was a Gentile who wrote particularly to the Gentiles and individually to one man
by the name of Theophilus.
3. He is a writer of details.
a) He put everything in a order that Theophilus would understand.

II. DATE
A. AD 60
1. Luke’s first treatise. [Acts is his later treatise]

III. THEME
A. Behold the Man.
1. We never want to emphasize Christ’s humanity without also showing His deity.
2. He is the God-Man.
a) Luke knew all about the human body.
b) If Christ did not take on a human body, He could not die for our sins.
c) He is the Meditator between God and man.
B. The proof of Christ’s humanity.
1. This book is written proof of His birth, boyhood, and manhood. (1:31, 2:37, 52,
4:16-22)
2. He grew up with such normal humanity that people only thought of Him as Joseph’s
son. (notice the normality)
C. The perfection into His humanity. (23:4)
1. The Greeks were all about humanity, so they were interested in the perfect man. That
was their goal.
2. Jesus Christ is first our Savior, but He is also our supreme example.
a) People die and go to hell trying to be like Christ.
b) He is our example for life.
