4-H Month Promo Posters Are In
Pottawatomie County 4-H is canvasing the county this year to highlight Oklahoma 4-H Month. Promotional posters have been printed. We hope to hang these posters in businesses all over the county. The posters are at the OSU Extension Office and are $2 each. Help share the great Pottawatomie County 4-H program and celebrate 4-H Month.

Josh Davis will start as the new 4-H Educator September 30. Come by and welcome Josh to Pottawatomie County.

4-H Block Party-4-H Block Party-4-H Block Party
October 4 • 6pm • Expo Center Bring your lawn chair, your friends, your family and be ready to have a great time. The 4-H Block Party is going to be an in-formal party where 4-H members can have fun and hang out. The Round Robin public speaking contest will also be a part of the block party. Snacks will be provided. JOIN THE FUN!

Farm Bureau Community Service
4-H members will once again help serve the meal at the county Farm Bureau Dinner on October 12. The dinner will be held at the CPN Reunion Hall, at the CPN Campground, just south of Firelake Grocery at 5:45. 4-H members are asked to wear a 4-H jacket or shirt. Call 273-7683 to sign up.

County Fair Premium Checks
Premium checks from the Pottawatomie County Fair are at the OSU Extension Office. Even if you already picked up a fair check, call or stop by and make sure you don’t have more money waiting. There are about 50 4-H members who have unclaimed checks. Checks not claimed within 90 days are voided. Make sure you don’t miss out.

OKLAHOMA YOUTH EXPO: March 11-21, 2011. Nomination dates are soon approaching! Please make sure you aware of all rule changes. You can view the rules at www.okyouthexpo.com. Nomination Dates are as follows: Steers: Nomination kits must be ordered through extension office or ag teacher. If you wish for us to order your nomination kit, orders are due no later than October 13. The cost is $10. Sheep and Goats: All Sheep (excluding purebred ewes) and Goats must be nominated. Nomination kits must be ordered through extension office or ag teacher. If you wish for us to order your nomination kit, orders are due no later than October 26. The cost is $10. Swine: All Swine must be nominated – ALL GILTS AND BARROWS. Nomination kits must be ordered through extension office or ag teacher. If you wish for us to order your nomination kit, orders are due no later than December 1. The cost is $10. POTTAWATOMIE COUNTY JUNIOR LIVESTOCK SHOW: March 1-4. All animals that might be shown at the 2011 County Show must be brought to the Expo and nominated. Nominations will be held December 9, from 8am-4pm at the Expo Center. Animals with 2011 OYE tags will be scanned, but not re-tagged. Current OYE tags will be accepted. All animals not OYE tagged will need a county tag. Please call OSU Extension prior to nominations if you have ANY questions.

Animal Science Club Meeting
October 26 at 6:30pm in the OSU Extension Office. This club meeting is open to anyone. Snacks will be provided. Come learn more about your show project.

County 4-H Fund-raiser Poinsettia Sales
Last year, this was an awesome fund-raiser. Our goal is to sell 500 poinsettias again this year. Help raise funds for the county 4-H program. All money raised from poinsettia sales goes into the county 4-H account and is used to buy trophies, plaques and supplies for county 4-H events and contests. Flowers are $10 each and are sold in gallon sized pots. Money and orders are due to OSU Extension by November 22. Flowers will be ready for delivery the first week of December. Apprecia eciation Tr 4-H Appreciation Trays • October 20 • 10am • OSU Ext. Office 4-H’ers and their families have the chance to say thank you to 4-H sponsors and the employees at the County Courthouse. 4-H’ers are asked to bring treats like cookies, brownies, candy and any other snack. We put it all together and make goodie trays for about 45 different people and businesses. Trays will be delivered at 11:30am. Please come be a part of this. It is a lot of fun and you can show others how much we appreciate them.

Snowflakes for Kids Toy Drive
4-H will kickoff the toy drive in November. Wish lists are in and can be picked up at the 4-H Office. Clubs, families or individual 4-H’ers can sponsor a child. All children sponsored in this program are foster children in Pottawatomie County. Please return unwrapped presents to the 4-H Office no later than December 9.

Sewing Club Meetings
October 16, 10am-2pm November 13, 10am-2pm Meetings are held at Heritage Embroidery in Earlsboro. Some supplies and materials are provided. Different projects are worked on each time. For more info, call Faye at 997-3297.

submit an enrollment card to the OSU Extension Office prior to January 1, 2011. Late enrollment may limit your ability to participate in contests and shows as a 4-H member.

AFR Speech Contest Info
District Contest - November 11 - Newcastle HS AFR sponsors a great youth agriculture speech contest. All speech topics must follow this year’s theme “I Believe in Oklahoma Agriculture.” There are specific times, categories and other info with this contest. Entry information is at the OSU Extension Office. Stop by or call 273-7683.

At The 4-H Office:
• County 4-H Handbooks are still available. This book includes entry forms for all county 4-H contests. • 4-H Recordbooks turned in last summer. If you turned in a recordbook, please stop by and pick it up after October 1. • 4-H Patches for shirts or jackets • County Fair exhibits, checks, ribbons. If you have any unclaimed ribbons, checks or exhibits from the County or State Fair, please come by and get them. We will not be responsible for them after October 15. • 4-H Promotional posters. Pick up some today! • 4-H Banquet awards that weren’t picked up • 4-H Baby Basket gifts. Add yours too.
