Logo goes live on Youth Murrindindi

Murrindindi Shire Council¶s dedicated youth website now has a new logo as a result of a shire-wide competition. The work of 16-year-old Alexandra Secondary College student Rachael Halligan was adjudged best in the on-line competition. Council¶s Community and Customer Service portfolio spokesman Cris Ruhr said there had been an outstanding response to both the logo competition and voting process. ³I would like to congratulate all entrants, there is some amazing talent in our shire,´ Cr Ruhr said. Rachel said her inspiration for the logo came from her past use of silhouettes and the Murrindindi Shire Council logo. ³To come up with my idea I thought about what I could do to incorporate youth into the Murrindindi Shire, and by doing this I chose to combine four silhouette youth figures along with the Murrindindi Shire Council logo which is made up of different symbols that would represent youth. Once I knew what my idea and intentions were, it took me about four days from design to the finished piece,´ Rachael said. In announcing Rachael as the winner, Cr John Walsh said the logo was a great representation of the shire. ³While the youth website is specifically aimed at our youth, the fact that the new logo is representative of Murrindindi is fantastic. It also shows that our shire logo is well recognised as indicated by the public voting,´ Cr Walsh said. Across the shire, Council received 21 entries for the youth logo competition. ³The competition was embraced by our young people and we hope that they continue to use the website to develop that strong bond across the shire,´ Cr Walsh said. Running in-conjunction with the logo competition, was a prize for a community vote. That was won by 15 year old Samuel Watkins. Rachael is considering using her talents as a career choice. ³Designing is something that I would like to consider as a career in the future, either architecture design or graphic design,´ she said.
