October swallows summer

with such a sneaky smile

fools at the alter

not realizing what comes next

so taken by the ‘crisp air, fall colors, ‘

entrapments set to lure us

into a snowbound hell

and

If you tell me how much you love this time of year

I will know you are actually a blithering idiot

believing orange red fairy tales hang on trees

warm apple pies with jack o lantern grins

do not have faith in autumn’s treats

they are but the tricks of winter
