    Cars affected

    Saab 9-3 up to and including VIN W2061707, X2005838.

    Background

    The hose on the EVAP canister on a small number of cars may have been bent due to incorrect
    assembly on the production line. This can block the system and cause a number of faults that
    can not primarily be traced to this cause, e.g.

    • Engine stalls and can be restarted after a couple of hours.

    • Loss of power.

    • Vibration during acceleration.

    • DTC P0172 displayed on the diagnostic tool.

    2. Engine Bulletins - SI/MI - (98-09) Blocked hose on EVAP canister

    • Incorrect fuel gauge reading.

    • The fuel tank can be deformed so much that it can even be completely compressed
    after a time. Check the pump and fuel sensor.

    Procedure

    If a car displays one or any of the problems described above, check the hoses on the EVAP
    canister and adjust their positions if necessary. See illustration.
