The purpose of this activity is to let you explore the presentation resources and to practice editing the PowerPoint presentations. 1. Insert the disk into the cd drive of your computer. 2. Click on Start, then Run, the go to browse, go to your cd drive and click on setup to load the program on your computer. This will put an icon on your desktop. (The program can also be run on the cd) 3. Launch the program, double click on the chapter of choice or highlight the chapter and click on Launch. Take some time to view the slideshow. Look for the audio symbols for vocabulary words, any video or animation slides, etc. 4. Click on the resources tab at the bottom of one of the slides and take a few minutes to view the resources. What are some ways that you would use these? Editing the PowerPoints on the Interactive Chalkboard 1. Click on my Computer, then on C Drive, then on Program Files and then on the ‘11MMS_Earth” and then click the chapter you want to edit. 2. Click on the Powerpoint file for that Chapter. 3. To hide slides you don’t want in your presentation simply go to the slide sorter view, highlight the slide you don’t want and click on the hide button (see below). 4. Try it. Take a chapter presentation and hide 5 slides that you might not use. 5. To edit individual slides simply open the chapter powerpoint, select the slide you want to edit and go for it. When you finish make sure you do two things: (1) use the Save As feature and rename the powerpoint, (2) save the new file in the “11MMS_Earth” folder. This is very important because it keeps all the video, audio, and resource links intact. Try it! Edit a slide and save it in the file you created. 6. To use visuals and text to put into your powerpoint – open the powerpoint that has the images or text you want to use. Right click on the image or text and copy. Go to the desired source and right click and then hit paste. Try it. Pick a picture, copy it and paste it into a word document.
