TO: FROM: DATE: RE: Pirate Parties International, c/o Board of Directors Federal Council, Pirate Party of Canada 4 November 2010 Preliminary membership discussions
To the co-directors and Board of Pirate Parties International, Today the Pirate Party of Canada would like to notify you that the long road has finally concluded. The Pirate Party of Canada is fielding a candidate in the federal by-election for the riding (constituency) of Winnipeg North, in central Canada, and thus, is being registered by Elections Canada as an official political party, the first to do so outside of the European Union. This could have never happened without the inspiration and example of the member parties of Pirate Parties International. In taking this step, we have come to consider how we will move forward in the future. This means that Federal Council of the PPCA and the members of the PPCA will be discussing our future with the PPI organization. We realize that such a decision is a large one, and so we will be making our choice most carefully. There are points that must be discussed before we can do that, however, and so we request that the Federal Council of the PPCA and the Board of PPI begin discussions regarding our political party joining your organization. There are so many similarities that our party hold in comparison to the values of your parties, however, we ask that you understand that the PPCA, as a political party operating in another continent, operates in a pluralty system and our goals may be somewhat more pragmatic in its ambitions in comparison to your parties. Thus, we need to ensure that the sovereignty of our goals can continue, while still striving toward the same free-libre, open society that we all fight to live in. Our current federal council consists of the Leader of the PPCA, Mikkel Paulson, and four directors at-large, namely Stephane Bakhos, Mike Bleskie, Jake Daynes (former interim leader), and a vacant spot recently vacated by long-time director Daniel Lasalle. Our primary email contact is email@example.com. We can also be reached via IRC at #Canada on irc.pirateparty.ca. We are very open to discussion, and look forward to working with you.
