Black slaves were very useful because: They could work long hours in the hot sun Slaves did not go on strike

When the cotton gin (machine which separated the cotton quickly from its seeds) was invented!  The slaves became more important  More and more slaves were needed for this job  After a while the South is selling huge amounts of cotton per year to the countries of Europe
As a result the planters controlled the economy and government of the South

Reasons for which the pro-slavery movement justified slavery
Many abolitionists in the 1800s tried to give an end to slavery because it was something bad and inhuman. Many Southerners' named this movement as the pre slavery movement.

Reasons for which the pro-slavery movement justified slavery
On the other hand, people believed that the strong were ruling the weak. In addition to that, many thought that it was right for white people to own black ones. Moreover, some supported that the Bible was not against slavery. Other people supported slavery because they believed that black people had a better life in America than the life they had in Africa.
