The 2nd Edition 0 f NTU Newsletter is in your hand.Thanks to Almighty Allah. It is the outcome of the efforts of a highly motivated and devoted team work. I don't claim this issue to be perfect. Perfection seems to be a solid and stagnant thing; no alteration can be made to it. But this issue is an evolution from past towards the present. It is just like a tree, having a large number of new leaves along with some old leaves. In this issue you will taste the flavors of the masterpieces of mature minds and creations of the developing brains. There might be some mistakes and weak points in the issue. Your suggestions in this regard will be an asset forme.

Now corning towards the issue, through these lines I would like to acknowledge the people whose efforts helped IUY dream come true in a short period of just one month. lowe a special debt ofgratitude to the Patron, Mr. N isar Bhatti for his kindness and agreeing to all the proposals I put forth, in a fatherly manner.

President, Islamic Republic of Pakistan Inaugurates Development Projects

at NTU, Faisa1abad on Jan 18, 2010

His Excellency, President of Pakistan, Mr. Asif Ali Zardari visited NTU and inaugurated development projects such as "Benazir Bhutto Shaheed IT Center", Academic Block and others on Jan 18.2010.

Appreciating the contribution of Dr. Niaz Ahmad, Rector NTU, Asif Ali Zardari said, that he (TIle rector) was supervising a force of fully trained and experienced professors and was striving lor converting the NTU as world class university.

Glimpses of President's Visit

Addressing the Students ofNTU and people of Faisalabad. the President of Pakistan appreciated the efforts of whole staff of NTU and students' hard work and sincerity towards their duties as students and Paki stan is. He also announced Rs. 100 Millions forNTU.

The President also performed the groundbreaking of new academic block and IT Centre and Video Confcrcncing Facility at the National Textiles University. The center will be part of a national network of 70 universities to enable students to interact with one another and other foreign Universities.The inaugurated Video Conferencing Hall at NTU has been dedicated to Shahecd Bcnazir Bhutto for her vision to equip the students with the latest technology which was linked to HEC.The event was attended by Governor Punjab Salman Taseer, Minister for Information Qamar Zaman Kaira, Minister for Water and Power Raja Pervaiz Ashraf, Minister for Textiles. provincial ministers and a large number of parliamentarians .

Highlights of His Visit

lle also inaugurated another series of development projects at the country's textile hub. aimed at improving electricity transmission and distribution system. The President, who was in Punjab 011 over a week long visit to interact with the masses. review development projects and launch a series of new projects. arrived here by road owing to bad weather.

The President inaugurated Gakkar Machi 500 KY Grid Station and 500 KY MuzaffargarhGatti Transmission Line, completed at a cost of Rs 450 million in two years. The projects will address the long-standing demand of the people of Faisalabad and end years of power outages by providing reliable and stable power supply and improve electricity transmission system for the areas adjoining Gujranwala, Gujrat, Sialkot and Lahore and will cover up the electricity deficit.

The system also includes two circuits of 220 KY and eight circuits of 122 KV for Gujranwala. Minister for Water and Power Raja Pervaiz Ashraf presented the President a shield marking the historic event. President Zardari also had a meeting with the leaders of value added textile mills and assured them that their issues would be addressed on priority. lIe also inaugurated the Faisalabad Garment City project spread over an area of 40 acres on the Khurrianwala-Sahianwala Road. The project w111 increase the proportion of value added products in textile exports, maximize the value of Pakistan's cotton resources and attract foreign investment besides generating employment opportunities, especially for women.

st Convocation Session: 1998-2005 on April 24,2010

Like almost all other educational institutions, National Textile University also started its journey as Textile Institute in 1959, when Government of Pakistan provided 62 acres of State owned cost free land to it on the request of a group of visionary industrialists including Koh-e-Noor Industires, Colony Textile Mills. Dawood Foundation and Lyal1pur Cotton Mills. Initially a fund of almost Rs. 2.5 Million was provided by them for the construction of the bui lding and for the in frastructurc. Til e British Government donated a bulk of machinery along with services of experts to run this college smoothly.

Later on, its Board of Governors was headed by the Minister of Industries and Members were nominated by the above mentioned donor companies. This college was granted affil iation with UET, Lahore in 1965.

On November 15, 2002. the Federal GovCT111l1Cnt upgraded National College of Textile Engineering to National Textile University.

The First Convocation of National Textile University, Faisalabad was scheduled on April 24, 2010. This Convocation was organized to confer the degrees upon successful Textile Engineering Graduates for the session 1998 to 2005 and to award medals to the position holders in their respective faculty of the University.

A total of 995 graduates did receive their degrees in this Convocation. 27 of them were awarded gold medals and 27 were awarded silver medals. The Chief Guest of the event was Rana Farooq Saeed Khan, Federal Minister of Textile Industries.

The guests were presented with souvenirs.

Chancellor's Message

On this auspicious occasion, I convey my best wishes to Medal winners, all graduating students and their parents on graduation of Textile Engineering program I also advise the graduates to continue their quest for acquiring new knowledge and to disseminate the knowledge for betterment of the society.

I also extend my heartiest congratulations to the Rector and his teams, both administrative and academic, for making NTU a quality educational institution in the country.

Pro Chancellor's Message

I am confident that the NTU graduates will successfully overcome all the difficulties faced by Textile Sector and will maximize the quality and productivity of their products. as well as of their organizations.

The countrywide net work a I small texti le units is the prime requirement of bringing a revolution in Pakistan. And I look forward for this revolution come soon in the hands of this very vital sector through National Textile Policy 2009.

The University has so far produced marc than 3000 textile graduates who are serving the leading textile units and are playing vital role tor the development of textile industry in the country. It is indeed an honour and pleasure for NTU graduates that due to their expertise and hardwork, the Texticl Sector is getting 60 % of the share in the export of the Country. I do hope that this share will further improve in the years to come because of zeal and commitment ofNTU graduates.

Spinning Society

Spinning Society, along with tours of different Spinning Mills, arranged a Technical Lecture of speakers from EFU.

NTU Alumni Association

NTU Alumni Association in collaboration with Spinning Society arranged a get-together of Ex-graduates of 1989 on their 20th Anniversary. It enhanced the interaction between the current students and industry.

Other Technical Societies

Society of Technical Textiles arranged several Projects in Different mills and laboratories on Technical Textiles.

Society of Polymer Engineering is first time introduced and we hope they will continue the legacy of other technical societies.

Society of Fabric Manufacturers arranged a Technical Lecture on Fancy Yarn Weaving and five Educational Tours to BeBe Jan Colors Ltd., Masood Textile Mi11s Ltd.. Colony Ind. Pvt. Ltd. Lahore, Lawrence Pur Woollen and Textile Mills Attock and Royaltex Gloves Ind. Ltd. Faisalabad.

Society of Textile Chemists arranged two Technical Lectures, one by Country Manager DuPont Pakistan and two Educational Tours to Sapphire Textile Mills and Nishat Textiles.

ACS worked marvelously and arranged 3 events: A fashion show, a poster competition and a short video competition. The third event was in collaboration with the Dramatics club.

Dramatics Club-==========================

Dramatics Club '10 arranged a grand drama competition on May 25, 2010 to boost confidence and groom performance skill amongst NTU students.

A Caricature competition was arranged on May 26,2010 to broaden the artistic vision and enhance the sketching skills amongst students.

Debating Club participated in Inter-Univarsity Debating Competition held at KEMU and secured 4th position.
