‡ Forced induction is used to improve engine power.Force inductive system ‡ "Forced Induction" is the process of using a mechanical system to "force" more air into an internal combustion engine. ‡ Two techniques are commonly are used for this: TurboTurbo-charging SuperSuper-charging . efficiency.

The turbine in the turbocharger spins at speeds of up to 150. and more air means that more fuel can be added. which in turn spins an air pump. . ‡ With the help of turbocharger more 50% air is injected into the engine and it produces 30 to 40% power.000 rotations per minute (rpm) ‡ The advantage of compressing the air is that it lets the engine squeeze more air into a cylinder. What is Turbocharger ‡ A turbocharger is a centrifugal compressor that is driven by an exhaust gas which forces air into engine. ‡ The turbocharger uses the exhaust flow from the engine to spin a turbine.

which refers to the amount of pressure the air in the intake is subjected to. in other words.‡ A commonly used term in relation to turbochargers is boost. the more compressed the air is. . the higher the boost. ‡ Turbo charger is bolted at exhaust manifold.

Turbocharger basic parts The air is pressurized by the compressor The turbine power is transmitted to the compressor through the rotating shaft The air cooler brings the air to a high density to the engine by decreasing the temperature A part of the exhaust gas energy is treated by the turbine The engine can work at a high power density without increase of the thermal load .

without creating a vacuum. . ‡ A supercharger is any device that pressurizes the air intake to above atmospheric pressure.SUPERCHARGERS ‡ A supercharger is a compressor driven by a belt attached to the engine's crankshaft. Since they are powered directly by the crankshaft. does require horsepower to operate and is not as efficient as a turbocharger. because it is driven by the engine. a supercharger. ‡ However.

Installment of supercharger .

‡ . ‡ Working vise super charger is good because it operate at same rate but the turbocharger working is not good at the start but at high speed its working is good.Turbocharger vs supercharger Turbocharger is efficient because it operates from the exhaust gases but supercharger takes power to operate from the crankshaft as a result the output power is reduced.

Applications of supercharger and turbocharger ‡ Turbochargers are mostly use in large automobiles but supercharger can be used in any automobile. ‡ For example turbochargers are used in mostly buses. . trucks and in many other automobiles having a huge amount of exhaust ‡ Superchargers are use in small automobiles mostly having low waste gases discharge but in some large automobiles are also used.

Conclusions ‡ Turbochargers are. an integral part of modern IC engines ‡ They offer benefits in performance. and will continue to be. fuel economy. and emissions ‡ New technologies are being applied to turbochargers to mitigate or eliminate transient performance issues .
