Good afternoon. 1 thought you should know that this article was posted today by the
"*Publicola.net" blog -a "political watchdog" type of on-line publication, The blogger called me
at about noon and posted this before I had an opportunity to eall back. I have no idea why this is
popping up at this point. Jessica helped me with a bit more background: Seattle and Portland
have been working with NWEA for more than 10 years in developing assessment systems; we
analyzed three different approaches; pilot program last year had excellent feedbacks this is THE
ONLY computer-adaptive assessment system that is aligned to Washington State Learning
Standards.
Dir, DeBell is quoted in the article as follows:
Seaitle School Board President Michael DeBell says Goodloe-Johnson apologized for not
disclosing her seat on NWEAYS board at a public meeting ofthe school board's executive
‘committee inthe fal of 2009, after the contract iad been signed; he suid she told the board that,
she had not developed the contract. DeBell says there was “not a big reaction ... no outrage” at
Goodloe-Johnson’s after-the-fuet disclosure, adding that the board is “very happy” with MAP.
DeBell says the board disclosed all their potential conflicts at its first meeting this year, “partially
n response” to Goodloe-Johnson’s belated disclosure about her position on NWEA’s board. The
board governs and watchdogs itself, DeBell says, when it comes to protocol around potential
conflicts.
