Concrete Rebound Hammer

To determine the compressive strength of

hardened concrete.
Rebound of a ball bearing measured
On a scale of 10-100 (higher rebound
number higher surface hardness)
Rebound hammer

The device consists of a spring loaded steel mass

that is automatically released against a plunger
when the hammer is pressed against a concrete or
a rock surface. A small sliding pointer indicates the
rebound of the hammer on a graduated scale
How to use
• Calibrate the device
• Hold rebound hammer at 90 degree to the
surface on which the test is being perform
(ideally) .acceptable for 45 degree with
correction factor apply
• Engage plunger and hold ball bearing in place
• Take mutliple reading (10)
Application of RH
• Concrete and pavement
• evaluate structural element in a confined
location
Factors influencing RH result
• Smoothness of surface
• Size shape and rigidity of specimen
• Age of concrete
• Surface and internal moisture
• Coarse aggregate type
• Type of cement
• carbonation
