Uplink Link Budget for CS64k in Dense Urban

Path Loss Calculation

Max Allowable Path Loss=EIRP- Receiver Sensitivity+ Node B Antenna Gain-Cable loss – Fast fading
Margin + Soft Handover Gain – Log-Normal fading Margin-Building penetration Loss

Where,

EIRP=UE Max. TX Power +UE Antenna Gain -Body Loss

 EIRP= 21+0+0=21 dBm

Receiver Sensitivity=Thermal Noise +Noise Figure + Interference Margin – Process Gain + Eb/No

Where

Thermal Noise calculation

Thermal Noise= E + 10*log(3840000) in dBm

Where E=10*log(e*1000), given that e=KT, where K=Boltsman constant =1.38*10(-23) and K=290

 Thermal Noise= [10*log(KT*1000)]+ 10*log(3840000)

 Thermal Noise= [10*log(1.38*10(-23) *290*1000)]+ 10*log(3840000)

Therefore

Thermal Noise=-174 dBm

Noise Figure=2.2

Interference Margin=3

Process Gain=10*log(1-n), where n =cell load factor=0.5

 Process Gain=10*log(1-0.5)

Therefore

Process Gain=17.7815 in decibels

Eb/No=2.87

Then

Receiver Sensitivity=-174+2.2+3-17.7815+2.87=-117.8682
Therefore, Receiver Sensitivity=-117.8682

Given

Node B Antenna gain=18

Cable loss=3

Fat fading Margin=3

Soft Handover Gain=3

Log-Normal fading Margin=10.4 at outdoor condition with Edge coverage probability of 85%

Building Penetration loss=23 for urban conditions

 Max Allowable Path Loss=21-(-117.8682)+18-3-3+3-10.4-23=120.4682

Therefore, Max Allowable Path Loss=120.4682

Cell radius of RF coverage calculation

Path loss=[46.3+33.9*log(f)-(13.82*log(Hb))] +[ (44.9-6.55*log(Hb)]*log(R) +Cm

 Path loss - [46.3+33.9*log(f)-(13.82*log(Hb))] –Cm = [ (44.9-6.55*log(Hb)]*log(R)

 log(R)=[ Path loss - [46.3+33.9*log(f)-(13.82*log(Hb))] –Cm]/ [ (44.9-6.55*log(Hb)]

Therefore

[ Path loss - [46.3+33.9*log(f)-(13.82*log(Hb))] –Cm]/ [ (44.9-6.55*log(Hb)]

(R)=10

Given

f=1950 MHz, Hb=30 m, Hm=1.5 m, Cm=0

then

[ 120.4682 - [46.3+33.9*log(1950)-(13.82*log(30))] –0]/ [ (44.9-6.55*log(30)]

(R)=10

 R=10-0.4812
Therefore Cell Radius of RF Coverage (R) =0.330 km.
Number of BTS
Number of BTS=Area covered/Area covered by BTS

2
But, Area covered by one cell=1.95*R

From Radius Calculation, R=0.330 km

2 2
 Number of BTS=40(km )/1.95*(0.330km) =192.13110122201

Therefore, The number of BTS is 193.
