Subliminal messages

A subliminal message is a signal or message hidden within another message

designed to seep pass the normal limits of perception. These messages are
absorbed by the subconscious. We know that subliminal messages are used
in advertising. Maybe this is why people react,do things or say something
that they would not normally do.

Experiments in subliminal messaging really began to take off in the late

1890s. In 1957 subliminal advertising began to take of when James Vicary
flashed messages on a movie screen. Vicary claimed that during the
presentation of the movie “Picnic” he projected the words “Drink Coca-Cola”
and “Hungry? eat popcorn”. Then the sales of popcorn and coke in New
Jersey threatre increased 57.8 percent and 18.1 percent respectively.

Harry Levi Hollingsworth was one of the first people to say that subliminal
messaging could be used in advertising. Vicary coined the term subliminal
messaging. Then in 1973 it became widely known that subliminal messaging
was used in advertising.

It is shown that continous one word stimulation can affect human behavior
and emotions . Subliminal messages are commonly employed in media.
Subliminal suggestions are potentially more powerful that ordinary

Adevertisers manipulate and controlling us in many ways because our

vulnerabilities of our conscious mind. You can find subliminal messaging in
every major advertisement or magazine cover. This means that the
advertisers have gained control of our lives without us even knowing it.
So, do we really control what we watch on television or are we being
controlled? Are we the controllers? Or are we being controlled?
