Abstract

Provision for Inter-dynamic-College of Information Technology Education (I-CITE) System in

Technological Institute of the Philippines Quezon City for SY 2011-2012

The proposal presented deals with the Inter-dynamic-College of Information Technology

Education (I-CITE), a website that enables the CITE students to view their personal information,
along with their grades, organizations involved, and upcoming college events. It also gives the
students an access to their lesson’s modules and serves as a communication tool among the
students. Its concept is based on the Education-Learning Access Program (e-LeAP) currently
implemented at the University Of Santo Tomas (U.S.T).

The study aims to explore the revolutionary impact of Information and Communication
Technologies (ICT) on educational methodology in Technological Institute of the Philippines
Quezon City Branch.

The paper sought to evaluate the feasibility of provision of I-CITE System particularly in
CITE department. The researchers also sought to find the answers to the following questions:

• Will it be helpful for the CITE students to have I-CITE System?

• What are the advantages of having the said system?
• Will it be helpful in the educational outline of the said college department?

Fifty students of TIPQC community, specifically from CITE department, were randomly
selected and were given questionnaires in the preliminary survey. Questions asked focused
mainly on whether or not the students were in favor of the provision of the said system as well
as the possible benefits generated it.

The findings from the preliminary survey showed that most of the students surveyed
were in favor of the provision of the I-CITE System.

Adequate finance and strict supervision will help greatly in the deployment of the said
system.
Brief Product Description

Innovations in wireless technology along with greater demands for user connectivity
have modified research efforts into the possibility of University or Institute systems over internet
or through online for a convenient and hassle-free communication and file sharing.

I-CITE, an abbreviation for Inter-dynamic-College of Information Technology Education,

is a platform/system that will act as a unified website exclusively for CITE department, providing
students the capability of administering and sharing information through online and offers
customization, distribution and adaptation of contents such as student data, lesson’s modules
and etc..

This project aims to explore the area of sharing and communications through online.
Characteristics of YAHOO mail!, YAHOO groups and the E-LeAP will be investigated.

The following objectives will be met by the project:

• To develop a unified system that can be used mainly by our target users- CITE students.

• To enable flexible and seamless communications to help educational instruction outside

the classroom.
INTRODUCTION

As the computer continuously acts at the very heart of each industry, innovations are no
longer an enclosed activity. Undertaken by today’s modern organizations, including education
industry, each field will need to have innovations in order to remain competitive.

Globalization in Information Technology not only features financial related operations,

transmission of banking transactions, and on-line enrollment but also deals with the information
gathering, sharing, computerize printing of different accounts that can lessen the burden of the
supervisory work and have efficient time and period to create business saving devices.

In a usual school cycle, the discussion of lessons as well as consultation is mainly done
inside the classroom. After a given time, students might have a hard time in consulting his/her
professor most especially when the instructor has another class to teach. Or possibly, a student
will wait for the professor’s vacant time which consumes most of the students time. A professor
is the one in-charge of teaching a certain subject course.

This situation makes it harder especially if you are an irregular student where you
usually have an unorganized class schedule.

The proponents want to develop the Online Student Information System named as I-
CITE system in order to fulfill the student-related data needs in a school, under CITE
department.

I-CITE is an example of a learning access program parallel with UST’s e-LeAP that aims
to enhance the connectivity between the CITE students and teachers, taking advantage of
modern technology with the use of internet.

E-LeAP is a platform/system based on the combination of a tool, able of distributing and

administering contents through a web, with a service based on the generation, adaptation and
personalization of such contents.

The content of the platform is general so that they can include subjects in different areas
such as corporative communication, training, and education.

It will connect daily operations in the school’s environment, including student personal
information, school events, activities, grades and student schedules. This reduces data errors
and time-consumed in organizing data. It ensures that the information is always updated
throughout the CITE department.

The proponents studied and reviewed the needs of TIP-QC, to improve and achieve
effective communication and information management. I-CITE system should meet these
features:

• Connectivity to school community

• Build relations with students and professors
• Offers convenient online communication
• Configure the solution to follow school policies
Methodology

The proposed I-CITE system will run in www (World Wide Web) linked with
www.tip.edu.ph where it is accessible for CITE students of TIP-QC. It features simplicity, fast-
loading of contents, and easy navigation system.

• The user must create an account first in order to access the system. The user will be
prompt to enter his personal information, including his student number and/or faculty id
as his username. Still a person can still have a view of the site as a visitor, but will only
have a limited access with the site’s modules.

• It will be accessed by the students and professors through the use of their student id,
faculty id and password. This will ensure security and privacy to the users. The main
page will display after the user log-in.

• Upon entering the site, it will display the links or tabs for another page such as student
info, student grades, student organizations, student files and freedom wall and
dashboard that will display the currents events in TIP-QC, seminars , activities of CITE
Department.

o Student Information page will display the complete information of the user that is
enrolled to the TIP-QC along with his grades along with the subjects enrolled
o Student Grades page will display the grades of the student from their enrolled
subjects that will be provided by their professors or the CITE department.
o Student Organization page will display the organization actively joined by the
user.
o Student Files page will display the files uploaded by their professors for the
students to download it.
o CITE Freedom Wall page will display the current topics by the students to
discuss things, to share ideas and notes, and to share files. This will also serve
as an open forum for the instructor to answer the student’s questions regarding a
lesson. The topic and content of discussion will be restricted to educational and
professional purposes only. Personal questions will not be allowed.

• The user should be allowed to view the list of events or file(s) stored on that site and
should be able to select the chosen file(s) to be downloaded.

• When sending or posting data or file(s) on the site, the user should be allowed to view
the name of receiver and should be able to select the data or file(s) to be exported.
Facility

The proponents propose Media Power to develop the presented title. Media power is an
independent organization that specializes in web designing and hosting, creative design and
publication, and Public Relations and Advertising. Headed by Jonathan N. Navea, the group is
focused on providing websites and hosts in aid of broadening network of education to partner in
driving the future of education.

The proponents want this organization to develop a student-friendly site that will serve
as a single network for CITE students in communicating with each other as well as to their
instructors. The proponents proposed that the site should be developed using the following:

• ADOBE FLASH CS4

• Macromedia Tools

o Fireworks

o Dreamweaver

• PHP (Personal Home Page)

Budget and Cost Summation

Summation of budget cost is considered very important with the process of project
management. The proponents are required and ought to estimate all the possible expenses
Provided below is a table which enumerates the costs items, their corresponding market
price, and a brief description of its components.

Budget Estimated Explanation

Category Costs

Project team 30,000.00 Project Team shall comprise of, Project Manager, ,
Production/Integration Leader and Quality
compensation Assurance Leader.

Marketing 20,000.00 Marketing expense shall be allocated as an

investment fund for establishing a strong client
Expense relationship. It is recommended that meetings
and/or gatherings with the external client be not
entirely in strictly business structure. That is, a
relaxed and /or informal setting is encouraged. It is
hoped that with this relaxed structure, the company
will encourage smooth project integration and
cooperation.

Reserves 50,000.00 Reserves shall be calculated as 20% of the total

cost estimate. It shall serve as an emergency fund
resource which may be used in case approved
changes need to be implemented.

Total Cost 100,000.00

With this summation, the proponents suggest that a P1.00 should be added as an
increase in the current P57.35 internet fee for the maintenance of the I-CITE.
