MODULAR EQUIPMENT TRANSPOR.TER (I>'IET)

The ME:T is a tl.1o-wb€l€!l@d vehicl.e that is used as an equipment hauling

device on traverses acr os s the lunar sur-f'ace , Small items qf cr~w

and scientific equipment are stowed on the MET to fre~ the astronaut

from the cumbersome ere.; activities required if carrying this equipment

by hand. The !MET serves as aport.able workbench with So place for

handtools and their carrier, cameras~ spare camera magazines, rock

sample bags ) environmenta.l sample con+a i.ne'r-s , and the portable magne-

tometer with its sensor and tripod.

The MET is stowed dur Lng lunar transit on the exterior of the MESA

that is located in Quad 4 of the LM descent stage.

On the lunar suz-f'ace the MET is removed from the MESA. Depending on

t imel-ine , it may be immediately d.eployed or placed temporarily in the

sun 011 the LM .,.Y footpad "lith the MET thermal blanket-shroud covering

the ME'T. When required, the MET is t.hen deployed and loaded tor tbe

lunar surface traverses ..

The following MET related crew procedures provid@familiarization data

on the !MET. the stowed equipment, and related loading techniques. The

procedures are presented in the following general .groupings:
