Another change you should make for print is to set font-size values in points. You will need a rule
for h1, h2, and p. A reasonable point size for most printed text is 12pt. You can make the headings
slightly larger than that:

p {

font-size: 12pt;

}
h1 {

font-size: 18pt;

}
h2 {

font-size: 16pt;

}

LET’S GO INTO PRINT

Viewing the print preview now, you should not see a noticeable change from Figure 6.23.

NOTEA point is an actual physical measurement in print: it is 1/72 of an inch. Twelve points
equal one pica in the print world. There is no corresponding physical measurement with pixels on
a computer screen that can be guaranteed across platforms, screen resolutions, and browsers.
Therefore, points are not a good choice for screen-media styles, but they are perfect for print-
media styles.

Comment That

The footer really should be there in print. I had you hide it temporarily to make a point. If you use com-
ments around the rule in the CSS, it will still be there for your future reference, but it will not affect the
display.

One of the nice things about using comments is that you can leave notes to yourself or to others with whom
you might work. You could wrap the whole rule in a comment something like this:

/*this rule stops an element from displaying

#footer {

display: none;

}*/

If you save that, the footer will indeed display when printing, but the rule will be saved to remind you at
some later date how to stop elements from displaying.
